NYS governor- Cuomo 62% Paladino 34% (Paladino carried Western NY (Buffalo) by 54%)

US Senate incumbent Schumer over Townsend
US Senate incumbent Gillibrand over DioGuardi
Congress incumbent Higgins over Roberto (Too bad, I know Roberto and he's a great guy.)
Congress incumbent Slaughter (age 81) over Rowland (again, too bad. Jill would have made a great representative.)

NYS is blue to the core. *sad face*

Last night, conservative voters elected the first female Hispanic-American governor AND first female Indian-American governor in all of US history, as well as many Congress members of color from all over the country. In several areas where a person of color ran on a Republican ticket and lost, it was by an extremely close margin. More Latinos were elected to Congress under a Republican ticket than a Democratic one last night (and they were from nearly half a dozen ethnicities, so they can't just blame us Cubans for that one). Are we seeing the beginning of the end of media perception that racism and conservatism are mutually inclusive? Are these election results going to be enough?
The midterm election not only busted the myth that the GOP is a regional party – seeing Republican gains in the Northeast, Midwest and West – it also puts to rest the notion that Republicans are a lily white party whose base won’t embrace a diverse slate of candidates. In eight prominent contests, Republicans nominated and elected excellent candidates and fine conservatives who also happen to be people of color.

I am watching the Obama presser right now. So far the reporters have actually been asking pretty hard questions, focusing on whether Obama thinks that last night's election was a rejection of his policies.

For his part, Obama has been waffling on that answer, stating basically that Americans didn't like the "means" and insinuating that we are fine with the end results. The press has continued to hammer him on that point, the NBC reporter even stated that, with Obama constantly dodging a direct answer on whether he thinks Americans rejected his policies, it makes him look like he "still [doesn't] get it" (the reporter's words).

There were also questions about bipartisanship and Obama, naturally, said he wants to "work together" with Republicans. Sure, he wants to do that now but what about before, when he didn't have to? Oh yeah, "I won" was his idea of "bipartisanship." He was specifically asked this with regards to healthcare "reform" and he said he welcomed Republican ideas---why didn't he do that when the bill was being written? Nobody asked him that.

The conference is still going, but what I have seen so far is that Obama still believes his policies are sound, that he still believes Americans just need to be "better educated," and that, specifically regarding "Obamacare," he intends to frame any attempts to repeal or defund the bill as "do you want to take away grandma's medicine?" Yeah.

Today is Novemnber 3, 2010. It is morning in America again, and the work is just beginning.

There are many things to say about yesterday's Republican victory, and I was thinking of an appropriate reaction to the Democrats and their 2-year campaign to demonize anything that moved. Michelle Malkin's latest Townhall op-ed will speak for me. Use it as a counter to the Democrats' new narrative of "bipartisanship" and calling for "civility." There will be time for those things in the future, but the Democrats will have to start giving before they can get it back, if possible. However, it won't be today.

Meanwhile, for additional sweet justice, Michele Bachmann has a few words to say about Chris Matthews and the tingle up his leg. (Has the thrill finally gone?)

A fun Bush update on the way.

Much has been said about Kayne West's notorious "Bush doesn't like black people" comment, though not from Bush himself. As part of his soon-to-debut interview with NBC's Matt Lauer, George Bush finally opines about it:

PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH:
Yes, I do. He called me a racist.

MATT LAUER:
Well, what he said, “George Bush doesn’t care about black people.”

PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH:
That’s — “he’s a racist.” And I didn’t appreciate it then. I don’t appreciate it now. It’s one thing to say, “I don’t appreciate the way he’s handled his business.” It’s another thing to say, “This man’s a racist.” I resent it, it’s not true, and it was one of the most disgusting moments in my Presidency.

There you go, and you decide if Bush is justified in his retort. Of course, we already know West is a jackass, including from the current President. However, it is good to know how Bush feels, 5 years later, I think. Special thanks to Hotair.com.

Update (10/4): Kanye West responds:

The U.S. House of Representatives, the most insufferable gaggle of political mongrels this side of, well, the rest of Congress, reverts to GOP control like a brain tumor reverts to a more aggressive form of cancer, and everything gets bleaker and sadder and, frankly, a whole lot nastier.

[ if this person were a conservative and i were a liberal freakout artist, i'd ask in those quavering, outraged tones we know so well "and what do you DOOO to CANCER!??! you KILLLL it! he is calling for MURDERRR!" as it is, i simply note the echo chamber in which the san francisco left exists, in which this is acceptable - and he thinks the republicans are the nastying ones ... he really does ... ]
