Sep. 18th, 2011 02:26 pm"Occupy Wall Street" protesters fail to see the irony of their situation as they protest the banks, the "big corporations," and the wealthy.
These kids organized via a social networking site. "Social networking" sites were born of an individual's bright idea and grew thanks to the investments of others, which is literally why Wall ST operates. All of the phones those kids are using to communicate, their computers, their ISPs, their clothes, their cars, the airlines, the fast-food they're eating, the ATMs they use to get their cash, the banks that hold their accounts...all of those companies (or a super-majority...some companies do choose to remain private) trade on Wall ST. If they don't trade there, the people who run them are there, the people who grow them are there...in short, the people who make them possible are there. Further, Wall ST isn't just rich investment bankers. It is every single American who has ever bought stock in a company, every American who has a 401k.
Wall ST is Main ST.
I suppose if these kids really wanted to "stick it to Wall ST" they would all wear homespun clothing, make their own shoes, and would have ridden horses to the NYSE where they could've camped-out in homemade tents and cooked their home-grown food over a fire with hand-crafted pots and pans. No manufactured BS for them, no sir, because that is only made possible by Wall ST.
Also, the person who compared the USA to Tahir Square is an idiot, really. Its not like the bankers are throwing mortgagees into debtors' prison or gunning them down in the streets. They're trying to collect on legally binding contracts that were signed of the purchaser's own free will, for better or worse. Please note the signs calling for socialism/communism. Not surprising at all.
