Sep. 18th, 2011 05:43 pmAlmost completely random thing I stumbled across via Sheriff Joe's Twitter feed:
Sheriff Joe had a drawing contest in the MCSO"s jail system to honor the victims and memory of September 11th. He posted the top 13 online for viewers to vote on, and you can vote until midnight (MST) on 09/21/11. Some of the drawings are really very good and worth seeing. It amazes me that people with this kind of talent would waste it by leading a criminal lifestyle, but the fact that Sheriff Joe is allowing them to express and maybe even further develop those talents gives me hope for them.

Date: 2011-09-19 08:33 am (UTC)I have a friend who spent 3 years in jail for homicide. He spent his time organizing the other prisoners to write for his poetry zine. Some of the work was incredibly moving and powerful.
