This is the BEST explanation of the difference between soldiers and enemy combatants that I've seen. I've been trying to pass it along to liberals who buy into the stupid idea that Gitmo is an illegal torture chamber, etc.

Memo to Obama: Detainees Are Not Soldiers, They Are the Weapons in This War

I just got yet another urgent letter from MoveOn.org (I subscribe because I like to know what they're saying) asking me to write my local paper with their talking points about the Stupak amendment. I used their handy email form to send this to the Houston Chronicle:

As usual, politicians and their spinmeisters are crying that the Stupak amendment would "dramatically limit reproductive health care."

Is it too much to ask, in a time when we're searching to cut costs, that people who want to kill their unborn children use their own funds for the procedure?

If we are to curb runaway health care costs, we need to ask everyone to make a few sacrifices. Taxpayers should not be expected to pay for a "cadillac-level" health plan. Elective procedures are the most obvious items to leave out. These can and should be paid for out of private funds.

Is it really fair for people to use the IRS and the government to force others to fork over money which will then be used in ways they find unconstitutional and morally reprehensible?

To the liberals who are crying about the Stupak amendment, quit your whining, suck it up, and either pay the cost out of your own pockets, or, better yet, learn to use birth control. Donate to Planned Parenthood if that's what you believe in, but don't hold a gun to my head and force me to pay your blood money.

Actually, I am totally against a government-run health care plan, but if we're to have one, I certainly don't think it should be used to fund abortions.

ETA: Here's the link so you can write your own letter from MoveOn.org. Oh, the irony! http://pol.moveon.org/lte/?campaign_id=121

ETA2: Because it might be vetted and not passed along by MoveOn.org, I've also sent my letter directly to the Chronicle. But at least if they do delete it, the MoveOn.org people have to read it first. I'm not hopeful that my logic will penetrate their thick skulls, but it's worth a try.
