The full story above from the Bierfeldt V. Napolitano case suddenly changing the TSA rules. Gee, remember that Ron Paul guy detained at the airport and ya'll were SURE he was in the wrong? yeah. right. the SAME time as all independents, libertarians, constitution party et al were put on a 'danger, potential domestic terrorist' watch list in Missouri?
He's been vindicated. Read.
and to those of you who will poo poo this regardless, not one single cop or law enforcement can ever do wrong - good luck when you end up in the same situation... remember the author's tactics and advice.

Date: 2009-11-19 10:33 am (UTC)I haven't seen anyone here, myself included, state that police officers can do no wrong, only that the vast majority of them are working hard (and legally) to keep the public safe. They aren't responsible for making the law, only for enforcing it. If the law needs to be changed, we have a system for that.
Police officers should have no fear of being recorded at any time. We employ recording devices for our own defense every day. We use video cameras in our cars and video or audio recordings many other times. I record every statement given to me by a victim, witness, or suspect and I record every time I read Miranda. It works out in everyone's best interest.

Date: 2009-11-19 05:21 pm (UTC)But I'd bet you hard money (were I a betting type, which alas, I am not--easy money, this time) our correspondant did not read any of the links I provided her earlier.
People like Mr. Bier are to be congratulated.

Date: 2009-11-19 04:02 pm (UTC)Respectfully, I disagree
Date: 2009-11-19 05:29 pm (UTC)There's always a temptation, especially the further the enforcement arm gets from the locals, to go after easy pickings, ignoring real threats. After all, wouldn't you rather hassle some skinny milque-toast-looking white guy in a suit who might be involved in some kind of white-collar crime, than go after a lawsuit-enabled-potential victim group member who fits the profile you're not allowed to use?
But men like Mr. Bierfelt need to follow their own rules: always treat the officers respectfully (even if the individual does not personally deserve it 80% of this fellows do, in spades) and the people who support him need to both reflexively give people who put their lives on the line for us the benefit of the doubt and support police who are cleaning up their department.

Date: 2009-11-19 06:56 pm (UTC)and to the cop, yes thanks but this is the first time it's been conceded that there are 'bad cops' etc. and you still have no discussion of the un-needed services in the first place. really, a SWAT team for the IRS? prime example.
we also all know how videotape from the police can also be 'lost' or misplaced so i don't buy the entire recording industry by the cops.
