If you believe that your phone call won't make a difference: think again. Call, write a letter, tell him that the House Bill needs to be D.O.A.

But don't just curse the darkness1; light a candle. Tell your Senator you want reform that empowers you, not the unions, the lawyers and the government bureaucracies.

Free the doctor. Free the patient. Free the employee. Free the employer.

Economic recovery requires start-up businesses, innovative self-employed people, and yes, even some traditional large companies to be able to be flexible, responsive and self-supporting. They can't do it if they're being crushed by a government behemoth.

Freedom of choice: do you really want it? Call your Senator.

1. For values of darkness = Honestly, is there any nadir our congresscritters can't reach viz cowardly, overreaching, asinine legislation?

"You guys make a pretty good photo op," the president said.

Standing on a riser wearing a blue suit and red tie, with a cluster of troops and a large American flag behind him, Obama expressed "the gratitude of the American public" and said his meetings in four countries over eight days in Asia will help deliver a "safer more prosperous world for all of us."

He got a huge cheer when he told them he was increasing military pay. "That's what you call an applause line," he said, before boarding his jet and taking off at 4:11 p.m.

Why do I not believe our men and women will get an increase in pay? Oh, right, maybe it's the context here in the article. If that was just said to get applause, it's disgusting.

I am really disgusted by Eric Holder. This guy (wasn't he supposed to have been a judge AND a prosecutor) is making a circus of the trials of terrorists and he can't even tell us what criteria he is using to make his decisions, only that some terrorists will go to federal civilian courts and others will go to military courts.

I watched the exchange with Sen. Graham. I thought the Senator was spot-on when he said that Holder and Justice were confusing the military in that nobody would know at the time of "apprehension" (since this could be criminal!) where the "suspect" (battlefield detainees are innocent until proven guilty!) would ultimately end up. I guess basic training now should include international law-enforcement training so each and every captive can be Mirandized before they get thrown in the clink. Also, its confusing because the Left constantly insists the detainees are POWs and should be treated accordingly under the Geneva Conventions. As I understand it, that explicitly means military tribunals not civilian courts, right? So how can they have it both ways?

The truth, though, is that the criteria Holder is using in making his decisions is political outcome; should the terrorists have (presumably)airtight cases that guarantee conviction, put them through the civilian courts and crow about "due process"--score the moral and political points at the expense of true justice. Should the terrorists have no so airtight cases, send them to military tribunals where it won't really matter and they'll get convicted anyway, score political points. So yeah, political capital at the expense of justice.

I was thinking, though, that since these terrorists--non-citizens captured on foreign soil during wartime who have engaged both civilian and miitary targets--do not fit within the parameters of our civilian justice system couldn't a judge simply refuse their cases on those grounds? Or do judges not have the power to make that stand/statement and they must take whatever cases that reach their desks? I would like to think a judge would do that, but so many are in it for their own personal gain that I have little hope.

Sending DVDs to the Queen incapble of being played using British encoding, bowing the Japanese Emperor, and now hiring an attorney general who doesn't know when Miranda Rights apply!

Aren't you glad we didn't elect some know-nothing Texas hick who would embarrass us at home and abroad with his clumsy ignorance?

In the grand tradition of People Making Crap Up comes this little gem from Yahoo! News: If they tried to fake a military record for Obama, would that get people riled up?

I clicked on it and found out that the "misleading" video amounts to a sophomoric intern mistake (the story doesn't explicitly say that, but one can deduce). Someone probably mislabeled the 2008 campaign video as "Sarah Palin Book Tour Crowd." Then, they changed the production script and communication wires got crossed. I can understand - everyone's excited about Palin's new book tour (freak, my roommate and I were in a texting-based squee-fest when I found out she's coming to Salt Lake for a book signing - I probably even mistyped "Facebook" when I texted her from the bus).

This is what I commonly refer to as "LARRY!!" Larry is the idiot tech guy that hides up in the production booth and is prone to inadvertently pressing random buttons that miscue the audio and video at everything from local homecoming queen pageants to the halftime entertainment at professional sporting events and, yes, even nationally televised cable news programs. When something like this happens, I immediately pin the blame on Larry by yelling: "LARRY! Get your finger off the button!!"

Not like they don't edit video to report on Hillary Clinton appearances or anything...

Near-riots at UCLA Wednesday over a proposed 32% tuition hike:

The only thing is, they're angry at the wrong people and protesting in the wrong place. The comments say it best:

These kids are TOTALLY mislead in attacking the Board of Regents. The REAL cause of this proble is Sacramento’s ineptitude. The Board of Regents is just trying to make sure they still have a school to attend, and because of the $21 Billion problem the State government has caused, this is the only way…

The contradictions of California are ‘coming home to roost’ in the immortal words of Obama’s spiritual mentor.

California has taxed and spent and taxed and spent and regulated the state to fiscal death. Now the rich have fled, manufacturing has fled, companies that need electricity have fled, anyone with assetts has fled.

The remaining tax base can’t support the bloated services the voters have given themselves. These spoiled brats want the belagured taxpayers of California to continue to over subsidize their education, but the money just isn’t there. It’s a zero sum game at this point. If tuition isn’t cut at UC, then welfare will be cut, or section 8 will be cut, or free medical care will be cut.

I've seen the same thing happen in Arizona, another one of the Union's most troubled states. When education spending was threatened and "student fee" hikes were announced at state colleges, people were in an uproar over it. I just wish these kids would learn who was really responsible (*cough*liberals*cough*) so they could take appropriate and meaningful political action.

Looks like the states rights/sovereignty movement marches on. Anybody planning on going? i'd be curious to be a fly on the wall but will probably be working and i'm sure someone will have a blogcast. which other states are following suit thus far? not NV or WY yet to my knowledge.

"One of Hasan's commanding officers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Lieutenant Colonel Melanie Guerrero, told investigators she had considered failing him as an intern but 'decided to allow him to pass since he was going into psychiatry and would not be doing any real patient care.'"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't psychiatrists spend an awful lot of time working with, you know, PATIENTS??

From yesterday night's Jay Leno Show:

● The postal service announced last week that they've lost $3.8 billion dollars last year. Hey, I have an idea - let's put the government in charge of healthcare.
