[identity profile] brendala.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] therightfangirl

Everyone has probably seen this video already. But I think it's worth posting anyway because this man has done something miraculous. He has brought the pro and anti Chick-Fil-A folks together to agree on one thing:
THIS GUY IS THE BIGGEST DOUCHE IN THE UNIVERSE!!!!

===

I feel for this guy's family (he has young kids and internet mob justice can be a frightening thing). But I don't feel sorry for him. As someone who has worked many low wage customer service jobs and has dealt with numerous sanctimonious assholes like him, I revel in the fact that he lost his cushy job. Maybe now he'll understand what it's like to not have the luxury of being able to be selective about what companies you choose to work for. He seemed to be under the impression that the teenage drive-thru girl chose that job because she just LOVES oppressing gay people with chicken sandwiches. And he seemed to believe that upsetting a helpless young woman at her workplace (where she is obligated to be nice to him and not fight back!) was a victory for civil rights somehow. F**K this guy!!

Bah, the video has been removed. (But it's at the Blaze linked story.)

I could only stomach a few seconds of listening to this nonsense.

Her mistake was to engage him in conversation at all. Give him his order and move him along. If there was no one else in line behind him, call a manager to help get rid of him.

Customer service doesn't mean you stand there and take this sort of crap treatment from clowns like this.

Actually, many places do require it; customers aren't always going to be happy, after all, and they still require service. I've worked for two employers, both customer service roles - Disney World and my current employer. At Disney, you are required to grin and bear it. Naturally, there are points when the manager has to get involved, but for the peons like this guy, you smile and acknowledge. Same for my current job, though it's a phone job, so I don't have to smile anymore. ;)

The chick did pretty well, I thought, sticking to the official company position and not getting dragged into his rant. I liked the part when her coworker peeked around her shoulder and started laughing in the guy's face: they've handled much worse, I'm sure. Besides, sometimes you can't just stay quiet; it hints too much at agreement.

I just think that sort of requirement by employers is ridiculous. I'm not saying employees should start screaming/fighting back with the customer. That's just as ugly. But there needs to be a line drawn.

If it's a dispute directly related to the service provided, that's one thing. But someone like this, whose only (or main) purpose for being there is to deliberately harass and abuse an employee? That's not right. If I was the manager I'd let it go for a bit and then come out and tell this man, "Sir, you've had your say. Let's please move along now." If he starts up again you tell him firmly - even if it means interrupting him mid-rant - that if he does not leave immediately, you are going to call the police. And have the phone in hand when you say it.

It's not right for people like this guy to be allowed a platform to spew their filth. It's not right for the employee to be subjected to it. And it's not fair to the other 95% of customers who behave like civilized human beings.

Well, I'm glad he got fired. Maybe he'll have to go find some low-paying customer service job where you're treated like crap.

Better yet, I hope Chick-Fil-A offers him a position.

Oh, that would be POETIC!

There are several cases of employees being fired for stopping thieves and purse snatchers, and at least one of an employee being fired for stopping a man from hitting his pregnant wife.

Yeah, after the guy got fired from his job he did a video apology.

What a jerk. He wanted to humiliate this woman and make her the subject of ridicule and derision on the internet (hence the video camera) because she happened to be a Chick-Fil-A employee he could push around.

In other news, some Boystown and Occupy Chicago douches decide to bully a black homeless street preacher near a Chick Fil A they were protesting:

Holy cow, I had not even heard of this! And I was at that CFA that very day, just earlier! (I didn't see anything happening at that time. I guess everyone waited until evening.)

I read the blog post with the full account and watched the vid, but with the sound off. I can't bear it otherwise. It just makes me want to put my fist through the screen when I see this sort of crap. And how juvenile can you be, writing nonsense in chalk? What are you, 10 years old? Idiots!

I made sure I got a good look at that guy's face in case I ever see him around. I believe I have seen the homeless guy before, though I didn't know he was the street preacher sort. I'm so glad the person filming was kind to him and bought him some food.

Thank you for posting this. I hate this city with a passion. You don't even know.
