Let me preface this by saying that I am not a Romney fan. At all. However, when a moron like Hilary Rosen opens her mouth and says "Ann Romney has never worked a day in her life" because she's a homemaker...well.

Thankfully, Rosen was promptly eaten alive in the media, which has been nice to watch. And certainly Romney had plenty to say for herself. Which leads to this wonderful article:

I'll let you read for yourselves what the author has to say, though I think you'll enjoy it. My takeaway from all this, however, has been my increasing certainty that the only real feminists are conservatives. The fact that there's still the occasional attack on Sarah Palin (who isn't even running for anything and didn't deserve it when she was), Babette Josephs claiming pro-life women are "men with breasts," and now Rosen's comments add up to a disgusting picture of institutionalized misogyny running rampant in the Democratic party. How they managed to sell themselves as pro-women I will never figure out.

That was an interesting article, and true feminism is about having an equal choice of options in the world. If a man had stayed home with the family, we wouldn't want to judge him either -- especially if it was the best economic & family choice.

It is true that the working world can be different from life at home, but it's not necessary to devalue one over the other; they both come with demands, and difficulties, and perks. I've lived through parents who did both at different times and understand the differences that created on a personal level.

Democrats, they're such fun to watch when they're eating one of their own. Rather like watching a train wreck.

Hi, jkfabiani, far-leftist posing as an anarchist. I didn't know you were a fan-girl, but if you aren't and are only here to harass, I suggest you piss off.

Hilary Rosen has done the Romney campaign a HUGE favor!

(That cow used to leave her twins at home for weeks with her partner and the nanny. What does she know about raising kids?)

As a former resident of the D.C. metropolitan area, I'm familiar with Power Players like Ms. Rosen, whose idea of motherhood consists of working 100 hours a week, traveling three weeks out of every month, attending events and dinner meetings every night, and leaving the actual job of raising their children to nannies and au pairs. (I'd like to know how she thinks she understands the plight of "regular moms" any more than Ann Romney.) They're shocked and horrified at other women who don't do that. I recall an item in the Washington Post back in the '90s about some luncheon hosted by Tina Brown. While Brown went on a spiel about how it's sooooo important to balance family and work, the Power Player women attending the event clucked and rolled their eyes about Tipper Gore bailing on the luncheon to attend a school event for one of her kids.

I'll go with Betsy Newmark's commentary on this one:

"Okay, if the argument is that people who have never experienced what others have experienced can't understand or speak out on those sorts of issue, let's just go with that. How about if we also say that no politician who has never met a payroll can not speak out on anything concerning business or the economy? I'd be willing to sacrifice Ann Romney's voice on the economy if politicians like Barack Obama and Joe Biden were likewise permanently silenced from speaking out about business and the economy."

Ah but Liberal Logic doesn't apply to them... according to liberals.

I am a stay-at-home mom myself and proud of it. When I quit my job, I had several of the ladies there who told me I'd be unhappy and that I'd be coming back to work... but being a stay at home mom has been incredibly rewarding and I wouldn't trade this time with my son for anything.

THIS!

Try staying at home with an extremely active special needs kid. "Not real work", my ass! I love my kiddo more than my own breath, but good grief is she ever exhausting.

My anthropology professor asked me what I really wanted to be when I was working on my Master's.

I told her a stay at home mom.

She told me I'd use my anthropology degree every day of my life for that :P

I have a very very active three year old. Sometimes looking at him is enough to exhaust me!

Lately he's taken to stating proudly "Mommy, you stay home with me!" after telling Daddy goodbye in the mornings.
