It's the same thing that happened to the Marines accused of murder a few years ago...the liberals at DOD and the politicians treat our guys like the enemy and the enemy like he's one of our guys.
If there's a legal defense fund, I'll contribute. This is OUTRAGEOUS.
I was only able to read the first couple of paragraphs. This infuriates me.
This is the type of culture Obama and his ilk are promoting in our country. We are ALWAYS the bad guys and the real bad guys are ALWAYS the victims.
If it was up to me I'd take every person who thinks this way and hand them over to these so-called victims. Then we'd see who the good vs. bad guys really are!
I think you misunderstood what I stated. My intent of the comment was that we were giving "special" rights to the terrorists who are not citizens of the US. I did not state or mean to imply that they should be treated like sub-humans or that we should kill them out right without a trial. Historically Rome (and other great societies) recognized that their own citizens had special rights that people who were not citizens could not have. If we blur the lines here and give terrorists the same rights that we as citizens have then why don't we just give amnesty to the illegal immigrants? To me I see a slippery slope towards giving all people the same rights that we as American citizens have which should not be the case. (IMHO)
I am seriously worried for these men if this proceeds to an actual Court Marshall. I have a feeling that they will be railroaded to keep the administration happy. Whomever in the chain of command thinks that this will improve things from a 'hearts and minds' standpoint are gravely mistaken. This can be a real morale killer. Whomever ordered a capture mission should have made it a termination mission instead.
However, there is no statement in the report of when the terrorist says the injury occured, if it was after he was brought in and the guys did cover it up, they should face up to what they did. I have a hard time believing this senario as the SEALs showed incredible discipline in even bringing him in alive. If it occured in capturing him, or even when he was given to the Iraqis then the case should be dismissed. I am also supicious that the injury could also have been self inflicted while in custody. I am surprized that a High-value prisoner such as this was not under constant observation at all times while in US custody, and that video was not used. It is by how we handle these sort of folks that we will be judged. If we go the way of the enemy, how can we claim to be better than them. YIS, WRI
You know what happens when your comrades don't think you have their backs? They won't trust you. Trust is key to everything. No more will people go out on a limb, even knowing it could be chopped of behind them, when it becomes highly likely it will be chopped off behind them. These guys cannot watch their 12 AND their 6 at the same time.
Its damn infuriating because as previously mentioned the guy could have done it to himself, it could have occurred during the capture, it could have been inflicted while in Iraqi custody, etc. I would like to know what proof this guy has--it must be a smoking gun, a hidden video camera, a Polaroid---to bring a court martial against SEALs. Why should his word weigh more than that of our men? Sure, take the charges and look into them, but unless he's got something overwhelming that proves beyond a doubt that this was intentionally inflicted upon him it should be closed. This guy isn't worthy of breathing the air, much less whining about a bloody lip. Dammit all to hell that our government is shooting our guys in the back!
As someone said, if there is a legal fund, I would happily contribute.
