Some anti-illegal immigration protesters get beaten in the street during broad daylight by pro-amnesty protesters....and nary a peep from the MSM. The video is fairly graphic.
Considering the trend thus far has been leftists beating down people on the right, I doubt anyone will report on this as it would obviously damage the "conservatives are the fascist Nazis!" meme.

Date: 2009-11-17 06:39 am (UTC)Whoa, this sh*t is disturbing.
Ah, yes. Anyone who opposes illegal immigration is "racist", and Che Guevara is a hero and role model D:
Unprovoked violence is so progressive, peaceful, and tolerant, not to mention open-minded and smart.
Look, maybe this sounds a little bit like the "I'm not racist because I have black friends" argument, but I'm a Spanish teacher who loves the Spanish language and loves spending time with Hispanic/Latino people. I am also opposed to illegal immigration, I believe English should be our official language, and I oppose voter's ballots in multiple languages or the type of government-sanctioned bilingualism that exists in Canada.
And you would be hard-pressed to find anyone who hates genuine anti-Hispanic or anti-Spanish stupidity more than me.

Date: 2009-11-17 07:06 am (UTC)Ha ha, that's the nicest thing I've heard all day :D Thanks. Better than being flamed, by far...
And the thing is, I'm a language teacher who is totally in favor of everybody learning a second language, and this does not contradict the beliefs that I mentioned above.
I would imagine that a leftist/multiculturalist could never reconcile those two ideas: the idea that learning languages is great but we don't need it forced upon us by the government or by the sheer number of non-English-speaking illegals.

Date: 2009-11-17 07:22 am (UTC)And yes, "anti-illegal" does NOT equal "hates Mexicans."
This shouldn't even need to be said, but the Left thinks with emotion, not facts, and they think in such simplistic terms.

And yes. They use the ACLU as a source. Twice.

No doubt. Outrage is pretty much my default state, around liberals and the lies told by liberals.

Date: 2009-11-17 07:41 am (UTC)amen amen amen! when i was looking for a better paralegal job after being very unhappy with my last one, i was amazed at the sheer number of ads that required the applicant to be bilingual in english and spanish. i can speak very little spanish, but nothing that would enable me to effectively communicate with a non-english speaker. unfortunately, i live in chicago, which is a sanctuary city for illegals--so, many law firms that would represent these people would, of course, need their employees to speak both languages. it's frustrating when that is the one condition upon which i can be disqualified for the job.
it also pisses me the hell off when illegals have "immigration" rallies (more like amnesty rallies) and ALL of their signs and banners are in spanish, with phrases like "legalización ahora!" ugh, that is so insulting to me. how about, learn english and put it on your signs and then MAYBE we will think that you appreciate our country, our language, and our culture! (although they are obviously disrespecting it by not coming in the front door....)

Date: 2009-11-17 07:52 am (UTC)It would probably be worth your while to learn Spanish, but again, you shouldn't be forced to. I find Spanish tremendously enjoyable and fun, once you reach a decent level of proficiency. I understand the reasons for your frustration, though.
If a privately owned business wants to use Spanish, that's one thing, it's another thing when mandatory bilingualism comes from the government.

Date: 2009-11-17 03:10 pm (UTC)This.
I moved to Phoenix during the big immigration rallies of 2006 and the most disgusting thing--other than the fact that these non-citizens were DEMANDING to be GIVEN rights to things like welfare (you know, handouts)--was the fact that I was seeing the flag of a foreign nation being paraded through my streets in a very hostile manner. It looked like a damn invasion, with the flags, the signs in Spanish, the people shouting in Spanish, American flags being torn down, etc--technically, when you have foreign nationals coming over your border at the rate people are coming over from Mexico, it IS an invasion. And the illegals and their advocates learned from this, because at subsequent events they made sure that the participants carried American flags (a cosmetic alteration as we know their hearts do not love America but American handouts are fine), though signage and shouting were still in Spanish.

Date: 2009-11-18 04:15 am (UTC)Coming from a Spanish-speaking area, I'm decently fluent, but I hate how everything needs Spanish. What about the Chinese, the Russians, the Germans, etc and so forth? Are we going to have to be fluent in every single language or force them to learn the language of the country?

Date: 2009-11-18 04:12 am (UTC)OMG, like
I live the deepest southern part of Texas you can get before you hit Mexico and trust me, it's bad - the mentality. Everything is catered to those who don't speak English. School papers are sometimes only sent out in Spanish actually, which is incredibly insulting. But down here, I'm considered a White Supremacist Conservative. *eyeroll*
Keep speaking up about it! <3

Date: 2009-11-17 02:55 pm (UTC)I've worked in areas with large numbers of illegals from various countries, while some will try and learn the language, there are also those who refuse to and I just see them spending their lives trapped in virtual slavery. The biggest problem is how do we deal with the ones already here.

Date: 2009-11-17 04:58 pm (UTC)There is a very loud "THIS!!" coming from me right now. xD
I do think, however, that gov't-sanctioned bilingualism is a good thing rather than a bad thing, though I agree that the official language in the US should be English, if it ever comes to that. I grew up in Europe, where the differences between countries like Spain (where I grew up, so I do speak fluent Spanish, albeit of the crazy European variety that gives me looks from Hispanics xD) and France in terms of treatment of their country's languages are enormous. Spain has four official languages while France has one, and fewer and fewer people in France now speak a language other than French, whereas in Spain about 30% of the population is bilingual, and damn proud of it.
The main difference of course, is that here, any language other than English would be an "immigrant" language, while in Europe the languanges are primarily all "native". I believe Canada is a similar case. It would be like Spain or even France all of a sudden deciding to make Arabic a co-official language, or Italy with Albanian. And that is where I see the problem with any other language besides English becoming official in the US.

Date: 2009-11-18 05:55 am (UTC)That's why I feel that the only primary official languages of this country should be Engilsh and ASL, and only Spanish as secondary.
I know people from many countries who know English as a Second Language, and they can speak it well. Why the fuck can't these illegals bother to learn our language if they so badly want to come to this country?
