Remember General Motors? Recall how the firm recieved a major pile of pork stimulous money purportedly to further the president's scheme to not only save jobs, but to promote environmentally-friendly energy choices. Saving jobs, and saving the planet: what a twofer! The future is "green" jobs!

They just axed their electric car program and let all the employees working on it go.

And they're phasing out Saturn! I am so pissed about that.

The deal fell through for selling off Saturn, so they're discontinuing it.

The deal fell through because GM would not continue building more Saturns for the dealerships to sell, and Penske could not find anyone else willing to do it.

Whoops - forgot to update TRFG post - did on my blog. Same story however: Chrysler asked for bailout money and got it on the grounds that they would build a green car. Then dumped the program and fired the employees.

Quoth the man I married: Did I say G.M.? My bad. It was Chrysler.

The Volt was going to be a huge failure, kind of an Edsel-class failure.

And we can also look at the success of the "Cash for Clunkers" program, where many of the cars purchased were made by foreign companies.
