Being Human
Aug. 29th, 2009 09:56 pmWatched the Being Human marathon after work today. It was awesome, although I had to walk out during the Pedos episode because that really bothered me. For the season finale, I wish there was a more intense battle between Werewolf George and Vampire Henrik. I was so excited for George that I really wanted to see more action. Instead, there was more transformation screaming than fighting.
I wonder if the Star of David works against all vampires or only against vampires who had been Jewish humans. I loved when George explained to the Catholic priest about him and Mitchell: "I'm Jewish, and he's complicated."

Date: 2009-08-30 03:26 am (UTC)I get the nagging feeling BBCA cut out some important bits from the finale (well they do for every ep but this was more noticeable, I thought) - particularly regarding Annie's newfound ability to hear other dead people. It just came out of the blue. o.O Oh well. I'm sure the pacing in the originally aired episode was better, is all.
Still, have to say, I loved the finale. George PWNS. :D
It seems to me any major religious symbol (e.g., cross, SOD) works against the vamps in BH. Herrick explained that the SOD doesn't hurt Mitchell because George loves Mitchell and doesn't want it to - it's the intention behind the symbol. I feel like I've seen that in other shows/movies involving vampires as well...
Anyway AHHH I loved these last few eps - they really hooked me on the show after a bit of a "meh" beginning (at least for me). The pedo episode was painful to watch, but imo very, very good. And I thought the themes touched on have been awesome - addiction (as Aiden mentioned in the "Inside Look"), yes, but what really intrigues me is the vampire enclave basically mirroring a communist uprising. They believe it's "evolution" - aka, the natural progression of things... It's very Marxist. Really enthralling stuff imo.
And God I love George and Nina. The ending of the finale was SO sad... I'm really pulling for those two - particularly Nina. Hope she's ok. (Wouldn't be very cool to have her basically mimic Lauren's arc, anyway. :/)

Date: 2009-08-30 08:22 am (UTC)The Pedo ep... I felt sorry for Mitchell, and I kept thinking over his damaged reputation in the community and the life he was trying to build: "How do you bring yourself back from that and recover?" That is something I would very much like to know.
I was sad to see that male vamp-victim had died; I wonder if he will also be a character next season as a ghost for Annie to mentor.

Yeah things did tend to "mend" abnormally quickly in the pedo ep after whatshername told the rest of the neighborhood she had been wrong. I kind of took it to mean they all realized they were wrong, too, but maybe there will still be more repercussions from that later on? People being a little suspicious of Mitchell & George even though they know now that they're not pedos? We'll see.
Yeah it would be cool to see him back as a fellow ghost with Annie. AHH I still miss Gilbert. :/
Good show though omg. I can't wait for the next season! :D

Date: 2009-09-04 11:58 am (UTC)I think if they make Nina into a werewolf, it would hurt the whole "Being Human" aspect of the series because then George would be interacting with another wereworlf, not a human.
Gilbert was fun, but when I saw him reading Nietzche, I thought "he is probably happier dead than alive." I noticed that he died the same year Annie was born - 1985. The second season looks really interesting from the little cliffhanger.
