While having a slow day at work, I read this on Big Hollywood:

To answer the author's question, heck yeah the hair on my arms are standing up. It's one thing if these artists decide to promote Obama's agenda on their own dime and time, as nauseating as it might be. It's something else when the administration is using a taxpayer-funded agency, and nudging those who might receive NEA funding, to go out and promote its agenda. Sadly, these artists are such tools, they'll probably go right along with it without giving it any thought.

If this isn't an argument to end the taxpayer gravy train for the NEA, I don't know what is. Artists need to pull their own weight like anybody else.

With they way this government has been acting I am not surprised.
The thing that bothers me is there were those, during the last election, that had the idea that if he came to power, that it would make the republicans a shoo-in. I am just wondering how long it will take to repair everything that has been damaged.

Some not-fully-formed thoughts on this article.

Wow. You know, I'm not one to give up easily. But reading something like this reminds me how difficult this battle really is:

The call would include “a group of artists, producers, promoters, organizers, influencers, marketers, taste-makers, leaders or just plain cool people to join together and work together to promote a more civically engaged America and celebrate how the arts can be used for a positive change!”

I learned after the conference call that there were approximately 75 people participating, including many well respected street-artists, filmmakers, art galleries, music venues, musicians and music producers, writers, poets, actors, independent media outlets, marketers, and various other professionals from the creative community.

Obama and his brainwashers seem to have the entire artistic community at their disposal.

This is a bit of side issue, since the post is focusing on the strange place of the NEA attempting to promote Obama's health care policies. But I actually have no problem with this statement:

Throughout the conversation, we were reminded of our ability as artists and art professionals to “shape the lives” of those around us.

Those who think the arts exist in a vacuum and have no bearing on life itself and the formation of a culture are asleep to the world around them. Of course art shapes the lives of those around us. That's the essence of what art is and does.

The question is whether art is going to shape lives (and therefore the culture) based on what is true, thereby promoting positive change, or used to promote false ideas like the ones Obama and the liberal side are promoting.

After all, this...:

Through providing guidelines to the art community on what topics to discuss and providing them a step-by-step instruction to apply their art form to these issues, the “nation’s largest annual funder of the arts” is attempting to direct imagery, songs, films, and literature that could create the illusion of a national consensus.

... is already happening! What side did all of Hollywood support this past election season? And speaking more generally, what side do artists, musicians, filmmakers and literature usually support and what viewpoint do they usually promote? It's sure not the conservative viewpoint!

As I said at the start, I am not one to give up. But until we see how serious this problem is, we're really just spinning our wheels...

Something tells me he won't be invited to any more conference calls, LOL!
