Aug. 18th, 2009 08:23 pmI see that a piece written by
oblivion1970 is getting reposted around the net as a reasoned response to the folks who oppose HR3200.
You can read his diatribe here and respond if you wish but please only in a calm reasoned manner, After all you'll be in his living room.

Well, since this self appointed pundit cannot stand dissent, I will answer him here.
Do you feel better after screaming all that?
First, I have never described The 44th President of The United States in that fashion, and consider it beyond rude, I do not know what you attempt to accomplish by assuming that anyone opposed to basically taking over nearly 18% of our nation's economy is a racist. I am sorry but it a false arguement.
As far as looking back upon this summer; I will remember spending it actually reading the probosals in the bill, HR3200. Something that an Administartion and a Congress who promised transparentcy in government attempted to fast track through the process. I ask, have you done what our elected representitives have said they are too busy to do, which is to read the bill?
As far as federal taxes paid, when compared to the highest spending in the Great Depression which would be the last pre war year 1940, Only 2% of the GDP was taken in income tax, whereas over 10% of the GDP was taken in the last fiscal year. when the total taxes are taken they still fall short of the tax burden that we now face. Cogress's own general accounting office has said that we can look forward to federal tax rates possibly in excess of 60% if the bill is taxed. Also, remember that Medicare, when enacted, spent 9 times the estimated amount it's first year.
As far as a small government, I just want the Federal Gonvernmet to do what is in the Constitution. No More, No Less. Not running a business "deamed too big to fail." Providing incentives for the purchase of automobiles from foreign car companies, while decimating the invrentories of affordable used cars. You know, cars that could be afforded by those with lower incomes.
The examples that you cite above, (aside from the postal service, which is forced to work as a private agency that gives a large amount of it's service free to the congress) are things that are dealt with on a local level or at most a state level.
Actually, when I am the age that Social Security and Medicare become availiable, it will have long passed the point where the expenditures are greater than the income (BTW, That is supposed to occur next year, according to the GAO) there fore I will be happy to recieve to benefits, if any, generated by a smaller population giving more into the system.
As far as what is happeniing to the American Dream, we must first define the dream, mine is to have the freedom to work hard and enjoy the fruits of my labor, and to be able to give the next generation the tools for their success in education of values and priciples that enabled me to do so. As far a s maintaining a nuclear arsenal,(which is scheduled to be reduced to around 2000 warheads by 2012) there are still other countries who wish us harm and it is by converting from a strategy of MAD to an SDI type defense that we will protect our citizens.
In short you have failed to do your research or even give a single point of support to your aguments and have failed. Good day to you, Sir.
YIS,
WRI

Date: 2009-08-19 01:06 am (UTC)Sure we complain about the mail (as I am sure liberals do) because guess what it SUCKS! However it sucked even WORSE BEFORE there was market competition from UPS and Fed Ex...guess what THAT IS THE AMERICAN WAY! You get BETTER service where there is a competitive MARKET. He should look at the FACTS about the "success" of government programs compared to what improvements happened when free market programs came involved. Nursing Homes, Government is the worst. Mail Delivery...government is still the worst...and I'm sure you get my point.
btw is it just me or do democrats have filthier mouths than republicans? I mean really...seriously everyone I know who has a potty mouth where the f-word is out every 2 seconds are democrats.

Date: 2009-08-19 01:13 am (UTC)I'd like to know why, in his fake dystopian world, half my neighbors and me are going to be bankrupted by his medical bills? Also, somehow in the future dialysis machines are portable, but oxygen still comes in a tank? I obviously don't have pain meds in the future because I resort to the Daytona 500 (whatever that is evidently it's located near my television set) to distract me from my pain.
And, that is why I can't respond directly. I tend to mock.
Of course, I could go for that single payer option and start paying 40% to 50% of my income in taxes (with a healthy boost to the sales tax tossed in for good measure) next year and save myself the ten year wait, but I think I can restrain myself. That's assuming I'd still have my job. I work in the evil medical field.

Date: 2009-08-19 06:26 am (UTC)Mmmm...at least in the future we'll have access to oxygen tanks, whereas in his future, we'd have to wait six months to get an appointment to get an appointment to determine if we might actually need to have an oxygen tank!
Are you Kidding me?
