I posted earlier this summer about my husband's colleagues who became US citizens this year. The local paper covered their story this weekend:

Couple makes it official

Olean! We're practically neighbors. *waves*

Isn't it strange how our president seems to think he has to apologize to the world for America, yet people STILL want to go through the trouble of actually becoming legal US citizens. Good for them, and welcome.

I love stories like this! People who go through that have a much greater appreciation for our country than the ingrates who were born and/or raised here and take it all for granted!

That's what I've always thought too (that immigrants appreciate their new country more than people who were born there). Which is why I've always found the US requirement for presidents to be natural-born citizens to be somewhat curious.

You know, I am not sure all the reasoning behind that either. Perhaps to make things simpler and avoid the legal nightmare of establishing whether someone is or isn't a citizen? I need to look into that.

I'd certainly prefer a legalized citizen who appreciates this country, rather than Obama who sure does seem to hate it.
