And so on, and so on....Fascinating.
And I saw a clip in which a Congresscritter citied a World Health Organization study that ranked the U.S. 37th of 100 countries in overall quality of healthcare. Boo, hiss! Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? So I looked it up. Hm, when you have countries like Saudi Arabia and Dominica ahead of us and countries like Slovenia and Cuba nipping at our heels, something must be wrong. And its actually NOT with the U.S. system. Rather, seems to be with how the WHO does its ranking: its inconsistent and subjective, to say the least. Michael Moore, CNN, and now our government are using this study to push universal health care on us. I found this PDF provided by the CATO Institute explaining how the WHO comes to its conclusions to be a fascinating read. It should be noted that the WHO has discontinued its rankings due to the self-admitted "complexity" of the ranking system.

Date: 2009-08-11 03:46 pm (UTC)If our healthcare is so bad, why do people come from other countries to get it? How many other countries can you go to and get treated even if you don't have insurance or can't pay?
I don't think we have a healthcare crisis at all. We have issues (TORT reform, getting the uninsured that want it coverage, lowering costs) but I believe that government is the issue with most of it, not the solution. Get the stupid government rules out (ex. let insurance companies compete nationally instead of being restricted by state) and let free markets deal with it better (with some obvious regulation of things such as the FDA, standards, etc).
I like the world "Congress critter"
