Got sent this this morning. I've only skimmed it so far, but what I read took me aback. I definitely think it's worth a look: Answering Peggy Noonan: Why Sotomayor Should Withdraw

Could also be subtitled, "Modern Racism."

Although, typically, when Democrats had the chance to put Bush nominee Miguel Estrada on the bench, their since-leaked memos show they decided to keep him off the D.C. Appeals Court specifically because he was -- in their words -- "Latino" and "dangerous." No racism there. (pg 4)

What a bunch of hypocrites...this entire situation makes me livid. AGH!

Sticking to the original meaning of racism (believing one race is superior to another), I don't think what Sotomayor said was racist. Prejudiced? Yes. Bigoted? Oh, yeah. One more thing that makes me think this woman should never have been allowed on the bench at all, let alone anywhere near the Supreme Court? Oh, hell yes!

Personally, just the fact that she thinks judges should be setting policy should prove to one-and-all that she hasn't ever bothered to read the Constitution, which I should think would be required if you're going to be a Supreme Court Justice. I think someone should be investigating how the hell she managed to get a law degree.

Really insightful article. I had forgotten that some of the SCOTUS cases were to overturn previous biased decisions (gogo biased public education textbooks).

Prime example of why we need to look back at history to learn from the mistakes of the past.

BabaluBlog.com, a Cuban-American conservative pundit (run by non-white Latinos) made the exact same point a few weeks ago. Justice should be colorblind and the majority of times, all other things being equal, when presented with the same facts in a case, a Latina judge should come away with the same conclusion as a white male judge.

no surprise
