The results of the CPAC 2009  GOP straw poll were just announced (not even on their website yet!).  Who won for Presidential nominee?

Mitt Romney (yay!)

Followed by (in this order): Bobby Jindal, Ron Paul (didn't see that coming), and Sarah Palin (surprised she's behind RP). Charlie Crist was dead-last (thank God, amirite?).

They also announced the favorite media personality, Rush Limbaugh, who won hands-down (of course). Almost ten percentage points behind him was Glenn Beck (yay!) and then 6 points behind Glenn came Sean Hannity (yay!), then O'Reilly, Coulter, Ingraham. Boortz was at the bottom of that list (kind of suprised).

You can check the website for the posting of the full and detailed results.

Your icon: I have that t-shirt, and I'm wearing it right now :)

(in the privacy of my own apartment, since I live in the epicenter of Lib Hell. I've never worn it in public...)

If Boortz is at the bottom of CPAC, then it's really RiNOPAC.

But Ron Paul is top three. Which confuses me as much as it makes me feel better about the party's future.

RiNOs like Ron Paul because he's against the war. They probably forget to listen to him on domestic policy (where he's spot-on).

And the economy... and education... and government bureaucracy... yeah, I'm a Ron Paul fan here, though I may be a RiNO, being a GOP refugee from the Libertarian Party. *g*

Those three tend to fall under the heading of "domestic policy."

Yeah, I realized that as soon as I hit send. Through my NyQuil haze, my brain interpreted that as "domestic social issues."

Feh, supporters of various people stuff these straw polls though I'm sure the bad economy has helped Romney a bit.

BTW, I'm watching Rush's speech now. He's awesome!

Not really too thrilled about Romney being at the top...I have friends that are Romney fans that I love dearly but I just don't like him.

Ron Paul takes 3rd? Egad!

I think Mitt Romney is unelectable at a national level in a post-Obama world. He's the epitome of the uptight, out-of-it Washington elitist. Need anyone any reminding of his cringeworthy "Who let the dogs out?" questioning of a sea of black school children?

I could really, really get behind a Jindal/Paul ticket like whoa, though.

I have to be honest and admit I'm prejudiced against him because of his religion -- although I would still vote for him over ANY Democrat.

May I ask why his religion bothers you?

I do believe people are free to follow any religion they like, but if I'm going to choose a leader for my country, I want somebody with sound judgement. I just can't trust the logical capacity of somebody who buys into the Mormon belief system (at its highest, most nonsensical levels, especially -- and he was a bishop). It's not a deal-breaker, because I would have voted for him if he'd won the nomination, but I'm a Christian, and I'd prefer a Christian as my leader. Barring that, I'll take somebody devout. Barring that, I'll take somebody ethical. Barring that, I'll pick the least sleazy. :-)

An article that echoes my thoughts: http://www.nydailynews.com/opinions/2007/11/25/2007-11-25_enough_cliches_about_faith_mitts_mormoni.html

Well, you're more than welcome to your opinion, but since the true name of the Mormon church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, it is a Christian denomination. Christ's divinity and atonement is the key belief.

Actually, no. Mormonism is not a Christian religion. They even admit as much, if you read the article I linked to.

It doesn't matter what name they put on their buildings. Matthew 7:21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter."

If you are interested in details to support the idea that Mormons are not Christians -- that in fact their concept of God and Jesus bears little resemblance to what is taught in the Holy Bible -- Google can find you a few thousands articles, but here are a couple at random:

http://www.mrm.org/topics/introductory-issues/were-christians-just-you

Look, sorry, I don't want to start a theological debate, but Mormons would never "admit" they're not Christian, because they believe they are. I did read the article, and nothing in there leads me to think they believe in a "different" Jesus or God. Mormons worship the same God that is in the Bible, and no link from Google will make me think otherwise.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I'm a total Jindal fangirl. Him or Palin should be the pick for 2012. Obama will have screwed the nation over that it will be a flawless victory.

Feh. CPAC hasn't been down with the rest of the conservative community in ages. Also, that straw poll is easily wrecked.

Ron Paul! He is so under-appreciated. He is truly educated about economics, he's a great speaker, and he has a great testimony regarding pro-life having been a practicing physician.
