I just found out that one of my best friends actually likes Obama because he's a great orator and the fact that I find him unbelievably creepy (among other things) isn't reason enough to have not voted for him. WTF? If I can't/don't trust someone, why the frack would I vote for him? Makes no sense. And she used to be one of the most conservative people I knew.

Tell her to actually sit down and listen to the guy talk. It's the equivalent of watching someone fall down the stairs or watching a train wreck in slow motion. The guy is NOT a speaker, so I don't know what she was watching/listening to that would make her think that, lol.

Sorry to hear that it was one of your good friends though. That's really difficult to deal with :(

i think he's a great speaker too but that's his charm. he can speak and use terms to have people swoon over him and miss how he's screwing them over!

This guys gets most of his speeches and even his press conferences off a teleprompter. How much of what he says is what he really knows versus what he's being spoonfed?
Then watch Obama when he's not using a teleprompter.

They would have reamed Bush if he did his press conferences off a teleprompter. Heck, they got all over his case when he made minor mistakes in speaking.

I'm still trying to figure out what's with this blind hypocritical phenomena.

Hey, at the beginning, Obama almost sold me. A year and a half ago, I thought he was a pretty decent guy. The more I listened to him, though, the more frightened I became.

He's a slickster.

Ask her to give a video example of his great oratory abilities.

Because I have yet to see it.

Exactly. That whole "great orator" thing is just an urban legend that the media has repeated so many times people started to believe it. That video of the press conference from the other day should put paid to that rumor. . .of course, not unless someone actually SHOWS the damn thing and his stammering. Someone besides Jon Stewart.

I don't find him to be a compelling orator myself although I will admit the man knows how to read a prompter pretty well.

How bout not voting for him because he's a frelling socialist?

How about not voting for him because the man has NO EXPERIENCE running a government (campaigning doesn't count)?

I don't vote for people based on charisma and if I did I still wouldn't vote for Obama because I have yet to find an issue that he and I are in agreement on.

*hugs* I know how you feel. I have been having the exact same issue with a person who has been the longest friend I have. It really saddens me.

Um, um, um, um, um, um, um.....I've never heard so many ums and uhs and other garbage in a speech given by a President than I have from Obama.

Seriously, it pains me exponentially to listen to him talk. All I hear is um, um, um. UGH!

I know how you feel. I have had many "good" friends convert to the "dark" side (no racial slur intended) on this issue. It's times of crisis like these that you really find out who to cling to and who to push the hell away.

I feel your pain
