Remember that lady at the Obama "Stimulus" Pep Ralley in Florida, the one that said she and her son had been living in a car? Well, Obama gave them a house, and she and her son are gonna live there "rent-free" i.e. at our expense. Story.

I find it fascinating that she claims that she couldn't find a job for five years. My parents raised me to believe that no paying job was beneath me, that even if I had to clean toilets, it was honest work if I needed it. In fact, my mom grew up dirt poor, her family constantly dodging the repo man and unable to afford hospital treatment when her mom came down with pnuemonia and nearly died. Yet, she never blamed her situation on anyone and she went out and became (very) successful. She worked all kinds of jobs along the way; no job was beneath her. It sounds to me like Ms Hughes would rather live in her car than work at McDonald's, because even working at McDonald's will give you $400 a month to afford the charity living she was offered (just ask the guy in the same audience who'd been working at McDonald's for four years without any kind of advancement---he's putting himself through community college).

So now Obama has literally given a woman a house (doesn't that smack of a certain Venezuelan "President"?) and now that others have seen what The One can do, they're going to be lining up, hands extended, even more than they already are.

Fan-tas-tic!

Wonder what he would do for me if I told him that I want to go to college and I want him to pay all four years for me.

I don't have a job either, Mr. President. *puts hand out*

That's ridiculous. You know, my mom told me several times she doesn't want me working around food, but I can swear right now that if I had to do it, I wouldn't be complaining.

It's people like that which make me so mad I can't see straight. That's inexcusable and a load of horse manure.

The thing is government handouts have a price tag. It isn't money, it's more valuable. It's our self-respect, integrity, and freedom.

Take enough and you become addicted.

Good thing I was just being snide then, hehe.

I didn't mean to sound harsh. Sorry.

I've been talking to some very frusterated people recently. Some of them are seriously considering just living off the government because it would be easier than working. When I was a kid going on welfare was a last resort that nobody wanted. It seems like it has become another job option.

It's okay, I guess I've kept my guard up when it comes to livejournal. No bad feelings :)

And to other people, it's not a job option, but another option other than a job. Ugh.

This x1000.

One of my cousins, who had the same access to education and everything else that I did (maybe more because his dad was a pastor so he got to go to Christian college for next to nothing) has had trouble holding a job since we both graduated 8 years ago. When I saw him @ Christmas he told me with no shame that he's not working a minimum wage job because he makes more sitting on his ass @ home while the rest of the country supports him, his wife and the three kids they can't afford. Of course, he still bitches that Obama is ruining the country - while he's got his hand out to anyone who he thinks might give him money including me and my grandparents on their fixed income. It makes my blood boil! I mean, yes, Obama sucks, but so does everyone else who is taking and giving nothing back.

I worked at McDonald's for 2 years when I was in high school. It was the only place I could walk to. It taught me to get an education because I hated working there. There were people that I worked with who had been there for 15 years working drive-thru. If I had to go back I would because I would feel more proud of that job than welfare.

Forgive my stupid question, but what's wrong with working around food? There are a LOT of very successful chefs out there in the world and a lot of them own their own restaurants.

Nothing at all. That's the point, lol.

I just asked because you said your mom always said she doesn't want you working around food, but that if you had to you would.

It confused me because there are a lot of people out there who dream of being chefs and restaurant owners. And people like Alton Brown, Bobby Flay, Mario Batali, Martha Stewart, Rachael Ray (just to name a few) who have all been very successful working in the food industry.

My mom doesn't want me going to college for 4 years or more to major in something, then end up frying french fries at McDonalds. My point though, was that if it came to that, I'm not above it.

And I never said that you couldn't be successful at it :)

Well you didn't say McDonalds, you said working around food. Which sounded to me like there was something wrong with working in the food industry in general.

As for going to school, there are a lot of people who pay a lot of money to go to very prestigious schools, like the Culinary Institute of America , just so they can have careers working around food. At one time I wanted to go to cooking school myself so your comment rubbed me the wrong way. Forgive me if I misunderstood.

I'm well aware about culinary school-but for the sake of the conversation, that's not what I'm going to school for, so it would be superfalous.:)

But, that's beside the point, because the point I was making was that I'm not above it.

From: [identity profile] sameinanylingo.livejournal.com
Well, I figured you did. I just mentioned the CIA as a point of reference because it's so prestigious. And the only reason I even asked the question to begin with was because your original comment made it sound as if working with or around food, period, was a bad thing. So I asked for clarification.

Now, I'm shutting up because I'm extremely tired and am probably no longer making sense.

I've heard a different story about this. (http://bighollywood.breitbart.com/jjena/2009/02/13/who-got-henrietta-a-house/)

Derp. Meant to add to click through to the link contained within the story I've linked to.

I've been looking for work for over a year. Anyone got his phone number so I can go whine at him?

/sarc

What gets me about all of this is that there is absolute silence on my flist from the Obama supporters about all of this. Not one word about one nominee after another being found out to be crooked, not a word on stuff like this, nothing. Dead silence.

And I'd like to know why. I think tomorrow I may ask. Because you know what? I've had it.

You know as well as I do Mo, that they're not saying anything because they can't possibly say anything about it without either

a) having to fess up that his first month as President has been made of epic fail (just like your icon says).

b) they have to completely ignore what's going on and act like he's doing a great job and come off looking like idiots.

And you know they're not about to let either one of those things happen. However, I am surprised they're not making excuses for the guy. Which is probably exactly what will happen when you come out and ask.

I can't see what excuses anyone can come up with. But I'm always wrong about these sort of things, and people DO come up with things that I swear I never would've dreamed up in a million years.

I *need* to know how people think. Why? Because that's the world I live in. Non-Obama worshippers seem to be the minority right now, so if I'm going to get on in the world, I need to understand the mentality of the culture around me. (Especially when I go back to work! It's been so long that I'm going to feel like an alien!)

From: [identity profile] sameinanylingo.livejournal.com
Oh, I'd like to know myself. But like you, I can't imagine getting an answer that makes sense. And I can't imagine them admitting that he's screwing things up. I assume the explanation they'll go with is that GWB messed everything up and now he has to fix it. But we all know that's not the case.

Well, you could get lucky enough to not be surrounded by Obama worshipers. To just assume that you will implies that everyone who works is an Obama supporter. And that's just not possible. I think there are more of "us" than a lot of people realize, it's just that "we" keep our mouths shut at work.

But you are in Chicago. So I could be wrong ;)

"So now Obama has literally given a woman a house (doesn't that smack of a certain Venezuelan "President"?)"

Actually, Obama didn't give her that house. Chene Thompson from florida, wife of State Representative Nick Thompson, did.

http://michellemalkin.com/2009/02/10/update-henrietta-hughes-gets-a-house/

Henrietta Hughes was offered a home by Chene Thompson, wife of State Representative Nick Thompson, who heard the homeless woman’s pleas for help to President Obama before a local and national crowd.

The house is in LaBelle, the first home [Chene] Thompson bought after law school. She told Hughes, “Just give me the opportunity to help you.”

Henrietta Hughes gets offered a house in Ft. Myers from Florida Republican House Representative Nicholas Thompson and his wife Chene Thompson rent free as long as she needs it.

No matter who gave the woman a house, it still doesn't encourage her to get on her own feet if she's there no strings attached.

I thought about applying for help in '04 during a bad time. I ended up walking out before handing over the paperwork because I literally felt like I was going to throw up....I just couldn't stomach welfare, even though I probably would have made more than any job I could get at the time.

I did that a couple years ago, too! I just decided I would rather not rely on the government for things I could get myself, if I just buckled down and worked for them. That was three years ago, and I'm perfectly fine.
