Good God NO!
No no no no no no! I...just don't know what to say! We all know that if Obama were to be compared to anyone in Star Wars, it would be Emperor Palpatine. This is bulls**t. Yep, I'm calling bulls**t on this one.

LOL! When you live in a town where the only thing for a young single woman to do on a Friday night is go to the bars, you kinda can't help but get obsessed. ;)

Well, there are a few who slip through the cracks. ;) It's just my experience that good guys just don't exist anymore. :(

So he's a whiney teenager from a broken home who ends up defeating his own disabled father whom he has never seen his entire life?

Aaaand...according to the expanded universe, Luke does dabble around in the Dark Side for a while.

I have always maintained that Luke was an annoying whiny character. I'm glad to see I'm not alone.

Sadly, I can't bring myself to care. Lucas already effectively killed his characters by producing the massive retcon that was the prequel trilogy.

Lucas has already proven himself to be an idiot, so this is just more of the same, as far as I'm concerned.

(Although, had this happened when I was a Luke fangirl back in my preteen years, I would be quietly weeping right now.)

Gah. The only good Star Wars stuff since the original 3 movies are the New Jedi Order books.

The Coruscant Nights series by Michael Reaves has been interesting.

Ok, but as any huge Star Wars fan knows, George is looney anyway . . .

This does make my stomach roll.

George, u r making my job harder!

Isn't curious how whenever someone says something dumb or outs himself as a liberal, everything he or she has ever done magically turns into worthless crap? (I know, I know, libs do it too. I'm sure lefties no longer consider Jon Voight or Gary Sinise talented.)

That said, the man crush Lucas has on Obama is just weird even for a guy who has clearly lived in Marin County for too long. It makes me wonder if there isn't some part of Lucas who's like Anakin, looking for a guy to believe in and finds it in the wrong person. This is embarrassing enough but I don't expect everyone whose work I enjoy or admire to agree with me either.

What's problematic is how this opens up the potential for Lucas to abuse the franchise to promote Obama and his ideas. For a long time, they've been very careful not to be obvious about taking sides. The end result is a film series that is timeless and universal in its appeal. But twist it into a soapbox for leftist ideas, it's no longer timeless or universal. In 20 years, it's another Battleship Potemkin or worse, Triumph of the Will. And that would be a real shame.

The Lucas quote puts Obama and Luke in competition. Which I find interesting. In the movies Luke only ever fought the Dark Side. He got his butt kicked by Vader in Empire. The only thing that kept the Emperor from killing him in Jedi was Vader's change of heart. Luke didn't really win either fight through his Jedi powers.

So, I guess Lucas is likening him to Palpatine.
