Glenn Beck - Gore to 12 year olds: 'you know things older people don't know'

GORE: But I'm thinking back now a long way to when I was your age and the civil rights movement --

GLENN: 12, by the way.

GORE: -- was unfolding. And we kids asked our parents and their generation, "Explain to me again why it's okay for the law to officially discriminate against people because of their skin color." And parents try to tell their kids the right thing, you know, usually. I do. And when our parents' generation couldn't answer that question, that's when the law started to change. There are --

GLENN: Okay, stop for a second. Stop for a second. You hear where he's going? "You know, my parents, they didn't know, either. They didn't know. They couldn't answer that question." Okay. Well, my parents could have answered that question and I think they did answer that question. I mean, I grew up in the Seattle area and we didn't have the race riots and everything else. I don't remember any of that stuff, but I do remember having conversations later in life when I was a little older and talking about it and my parents going there's no difference, there's no difference between us. So my parents answered that question. I think a lot of parents did. But apparently Al Gore's, apparently Al Gore was raised by racists because that's the only -- that's what I'm hearing here. But he's not really building to race, is he? That is, are we still having the race debate? Are our parents still saying that blacks are different than whites? Is that what he's building towards?

GORE: There are some things about our world that you know that older people don't know.

GLENN: Stop. "There are some things that..." you're 12! "There are some things that you know that older people don't know." That is -- and I'm just getting started. That is one of the most incredible things I have ever heard. "There are some things that you know that older people don't know." He is pitting the youth of this nation against their parents. We have a former vice president of the United States, a man who claims to have been President of the United States saying to the best and the brightest 12-year-olds that "You know better than your parents," that "You don't have to listen to your parents on things because they just don't know."

I find this disturbing.  Then I read these articles and I'm mainlining M&Ms.

Freedom, not climate, is at risk By Vaclav Klaus

Notes for the speech of the President of the Czech Republic at the UN Climate Change Conference also by Vaclav Klaus

As if know-it-all middle school students need ANY more encouragement to think that their parents are idiots. *rolls eyes*

Yes, young people can have fresh ideas. And yes, children can see the good as easy as they can call each other names on the playground. You get to a certain age and you start to think about what your parents say or believe in, and start choosing your own mind on things. Does any of that mean you don't still respect your parents?! No!

Did I know things as a teen that my parents didn't? Sure. Would I ever come out and say "I know better than you."? Hell no. You can debate with your elders without being disrespectful or a smart ass. He should encourage kids to talk about serious things with their parents - but not tell them they know better!!

"Greens" are really watermelons: Green on the outside, red on the inside.

I can't believe Gore actually compared this "going green" nonsense to the Civil Rights Movement. Seriously?! *facepalm*

Heh, only a rich white guy with no clue would make that kind of comparison, as demonstrated by Mr. Gore.

Hitler Youth used propaganda movies to encourage kids to rebel against their parents and that their youth makes them wiser than the grown-ups. The song remains the same I suppose.

I love Vaclav Klaus! The way things are going here in the U.S.S. of A., I may pack up and move to Prague ;).

I visited the Czech Republic in 2001. Prague is an amazing place; it would be the best location ever for a Ren Faire. The Czechs are born entrepreneurs too. Everybody was willing to make an extra buck. I saw young people selling handcrafts and jewelry on the streets, even running one-person tour operations. They know firsthand how much Communism sucks.

I remember a few years ago when Arnold Schwarznegger became governor of California, and he said the reason he became a Republican was because the Democratic side reminded him too much of the communism in his home country. Interesting...

It seems like the entire election was based on race. Affirmative Action at the Presidential Level. And now we have Al Gore telling junior high kids (who, if I remember correctly from ten years ago, are more or about as obnoxious than high schoolers) that their parents are incorrect? If I contradicted my mother I got a lecture. It's that whole respect thing. He's basically telling kids to disrespect anyone who has a different opinion.

Young Carbonelle to her parents: Why do [fill in the blank] get such a raw deal? It isn't fair.

Parents to Young Carbonelle: Life isn't fair. People treat each other badly. Don't you go doing that kind of thing and making matters worse, you hear?

Oy.

Liberal pols seem to just love throwing their older family members under the bus...
