I HAVE HEARD ENOUGH, AND IT'S NOT EVEN 2008.

WASHINGTON - Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton said Tuesday that a mandate http://www.lectlaw.com/def2/m080.htm  http://www.thefreedictionary.com/mandate
requiring every American to purchase health insurance was the only way to achieve universal health care but she rejected the notion of punitive measures to force individuals into the health care system.

"At this point, we don't have anything punitive that we have proposed," the presidential candidate said in an interview with The Associated Press. "We're providing incentives and tax credits which we think will be very attractive to the vast majority of Americans."

She said she could envision a day when "you have to show proof to your employer that you're insured as a part of the job interview — like when your kid goes to school and has to show proof of vaccination," but said such details would be worked out through negotiations with Congress.

Clinton unveiled her health care plan Monday in Iowa, promising to bring coverage to every American by building on the current employer-based system and using tax credits to make insurance more affordable.

She told the AP she relished a debate over health care with her political opponents, including Republicans "who understood that we had to reform health care before they started running for president."

Apparently she thinks that she's talking to children.  What's frightening is that the ones listening appear to be standing with their mouths wide open and stars in their eyes, waiting for another federally "mandated" entitlement program.  Only this one has TEETH.  Lots more teeth than she wants us to see when she smiles.  Does she really think that we can't read the subtle implications here?

That might sound far-fetched, but think about it.
If you have to buy their insurance, you will have to live by their rules. That means "lifestyle Incentives".  And if you don't buy their insurance and live the way they dictate, you don't work, AND you don't have insurance, and if you want insurance...a vicious circle.
Surely I don't have to spell it out.  And no punitive measures "at this point"?!?  Then she smiles, like the momma that's gonna make it all better for the poor ignorant masses, and presumes to set the debate terms, like she's the be-all and end-all in American politics.  Her arrogance is astounding...she's certain that she has this wrapped up and tucked away for Christmas...and I feel sick.  The only thing that's reassuring is hope that people will think about the implications of this and realize that the real fascists are on their way, and they appear to be bearing gifts.

*eyeroll* My freaking goodness. What a crock.

And, um, pardon my potential ignorance, but ... how we are now, anyways -- most people get the job, *then* get health insurance?!

Yeah that was my question when I first heard it. Unless she's going to have the gov't pick up the entire bill, which she probably is, how does one afford to have insurance when they have no money coming in to pay for it?

And if the gov't is going to foot the entire bill, where is that money going to come from?

it's not a terrible idea in theory, to mandate UHI. but the problem is that, honestly, not everyone can afford it--a very basic point, but one that seems to have been overlooked in MA (where i live currently and where they have adopted it). and a mandate doesn't mean anything unless there are consequences for not following it. it just seems horrific to punish people further for *not being able to afford health insurance.*

so in the interest of accuracy, there is no penalty for people living in massachusetts yet, and mitt romney's plan (i believe) places the responsibility ultimately on the individual to obtain health insurance and pay for it (though there is masshealth and a govt agency to help the uninsured find private insurance). hillary's plan would probably involve the government paying for all of the uninsured.

I'm in MA, too, and I believe the plan is that if you are found to be uninsured (by whom I don't know - and I work for a hospital!), you will not be allowed to claim your personal exemption on your income taxes come April.

Hilary's talk about showing health insurance when applying for a job certainly makes it sound like in her plan, everyone will have government health insurance, not insurance provided by their employer or paid out of their own pockets. Why would an employer care, since they are presumably offering insurance coverage, unless there is some other vehicle for insurance? Argh, this is a terrible idea. Can we have bumperstickers - "No to Universal Healthcare: Because Hilary Didn't Hear Us the First Time."

I like how she never mentions where all the money to pay for this is coming from. They like to hide it behind terms like "incentives" and "tax credits". Or even better, from "rolling back the tax cuts", or the all time favorite "tax the rich".

That and anything government run or mandated (because they then have to run it) is terrible.

While I'd like to see better healthcare options for the uninsured, I don't want to see the government in charge of it or the taxpayers paying for most of it.

God I hope she doesn't get elected.

She said she could envision a day when "you have to show proof to your employer that you're insured as a part of the job interview —

She can envision a day?! What, does she think she's Martin Luther King Jr. all of a sudden? Proof of health insurance for employment isn't exactly "I have a dream..."

If there's one thing I don't want Mrs. Bill Clinton's grimy Socialist "Big-Gubmint" mitts on, it's my medical matters and my health insurance (there are other things as well, but this is the most relevant for the day). Remember, the Greeks came bearing a "gift" to the Trojans.

Thanks for posting this.

Hillary Clinton is nuts, and here's why. Mandating health insurance will drive up the prices, and suddenly a great many more Americans will be priced out of it. Here in Texas, we already give health insurance for children in families that make up to 150% of the poverty level - that's about $50,000 for a family of four. That index will increase if insurance becomes a federal mandate, meaning that government will be picking up the tab for a greater number of citizens nationwide. Another nasty consequence - there will be no incentive for market prices to drop, meaning even more expensive prescription drugs and harder-to-access procedures.

Ten or twenty years down the line, the public will be screaming for more government control over health care, and Senator Clinton's initial dream of universal health care will become a reality. Meanwhile, it will still only be the richest people in the country who can afford effective, efficient, and thorough health care.
