I hate to say it, guys, but....

First, Howard Dean and the DNC called a College Republican field rep a racist and un-American for an event she was trying to plan at the University of Michigan:

(The DNC got their facts wrong - Young Conservatives of Texas is not affiliated with the Republican Party, and the original, successful event was conducted by the YCT chapter at the University of North Texas).

And then, Ken Mehlman (RNC chair) and Paul Gourley (CRNC chair) called her inappropriate and kowtowed to the Democrats, on Fox News no less:

Now, the poor girl's been put on probation, for standing up for what she believes in:

I'm shocked, appalled, and really upset that the Democrats seem to be controlling the Republican message.

Okay, I'm going to disagree with you here. As a Young Republican former club chairman, I'm GLAD that Ken Mehlman took the DNC's side on this. We don't need young conservatives making us look this stupid, and this borderline racist.

Besides, the DNC would never in a hundred years have apologized for someone on their side pulling a stunt like that (and I've seen far worse done by young people on their side, too). We have class, they're just crass.

I'm a Young Republican, a former College Republican, and a member of the Young Conservatives of Texas. Having participated in the original event, I'll vouch for it having nothing to do with racism whatsoever.

1) "Catch the Illegal Immigrant." I don't see how this is useful to the political debate. Neither is it "reprehensible," though. Fighting illegal immigration has nothing to do with racism. I don't think the GOP should have condemned it as strongly as they did, but I do think they were right in opposing it in general.

2) "Fun with Guns." SHOOTING cardboard cut-outs of prominent democrats? WTF? How would we react if it were liberal students shooting cardboard cut-outs of Bush? This is disgusting. The GOP was absolutely right in denouncing it.

You know, I do agree with the "Fun with Guns" event (though I've seen plenty of College Republicans do the same thing, except with water balloons because of campus regulations).
