I love it when articles appear that are pretty much tailor-made for this comm :D
NICOLE Kidman has made a public stand against terrorism.

The actress, joined by 84 other high-profile Hollywood stars, directors, studio bosses and media moguls, has taken out a powerfully-worded full page advertisement in today's Los Angeles Times newspaper.

It specifically targets "terrorist organisations" such as Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Palestine.

"We the undersigned are pained and devastated by the civilian casualties in Israel and Lebanon caused by terrorist actions initiated by terrorist organisations such as Hezbollah and Hamas," the ad reads.

"If we do not succeed in stopping terrorism around the world, chaos will rule and innocent people will continue to die.

"We need to support democratic societies and stop terrorism at all costs."

A who's who of Hollywood heavyweights joined Kidman on the ad.

The actors listed included: Michael Douglas, Dennis Hopper, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Danny De Vito, Don Johnson, James Woods, Kelly Preston, Patricia Heaton and William Hurt.

Directors Ridley Scott, Tony Scott, Michael Mann, Dick Donner and Sam Raimi also signed their names.

Other Hollywood powerplayers supporting the ad included Sumner Redstone, the chairman and majority owner of Paramount Pictures, and billionaire mogul, Haim Saban.

Some familiar names there, along with a few new ones, I think.

If anyone can get a copy of that ad, or finds it linked on a blog or something, definitely drop a line so we can get a better idea of who signed their name to this!

Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] sameinanylingo, for pointing us towards this blog post that has the ad. :D

Oh, I'm glad to see that the Scott brothers (they are brothers, right?) have signed on to this. It makes me feel even better about my fondness for Numbers. And doesn't Saban have something to do with the Power Rangers? ;P

Saban, believe it or not, is a Democrat. He is a media gazillionnaire who funds the Haim Saban Policy Center at the Brookings Institution.

You'd think being anti-terrorism would be a no-brainer, but Hollywood is special that way. :) Anyway, cheers to the brave souls who might actually have risked their careers by putting their names to it. Now I can actually like Nicole K. instead of just viciously envying her for always looking good and getting to snog Ewan McGregor that one movie.

And Little Green Footballs named this as another pig flying moment ;). Maybe the Beautiful People, at least some of them, are starting to get it?

Awesome!!! Nice to see this; too bad the list of names isn't, like, uh, everyone in Hollywood. Gee, who the heck STANDS for terrorism? And this is made even better with a big name like Nichole! :)

Some of these were not a *huge* surprise (JIMMY!BRUCE!), but Dennis Hopper def. falls into the "always knew I liked that man, and now I know why".

Wow, very nice. However most surprising is that this has got ZERO attention in most of our press. Guess it shows where most of our press stands?

Big surprise to me was Danny Devito.

*skeptical*

Yeah, okay, terrorism bad.

What about the war? Are they implying that Bush's offense is the right way to go? Or would the last sentence more rightly be "...but of course, the so-called 'War on Terror' is just making things worse"?
