anyone heard of this movie?
Jul. 25th, 2006 08:08 am the US vs John Lennon
I watched nearly all the trailer and figured, "Oh well, yeah it's probably going to think John Lennon is a demi-god or whatever..." I'm used to that kind of thinking. People have been deifying him since his death, and I am full aware of his very idealistic notions of peace, but I NEVER thought someone would say what I heard...
Towards the end, some old guy came on and was like,
"John Lennon represented life. Bush and Nixon represent Death."
O.o
And he was serious.
I was so shocked...I mean, first of all...it's silly to think one person can represent life. That was so overdramatic I wanted to laugh, but the next bit...lol the guy was so like, just "Yeah...these people are from the devil. They ARE the devil actually. KILL THEM BASTARDS!"
I mean, WTF??
Course, it is by the same studio who made Farendrama 9/11....
I am a fan of the Lenners...simply because he was a great artist, and I can take that without having to side with his politics, but to think he represents life or like he's some prophet!?! Hell no...
I think I want to see the movie anyway though...But watch the trailer for yourself and assess. What do you think the goal of this movie is?

Look, I think the point of the film is going to be that, somehow, the American government was responsible for John Lennon's death.

But you can't get cynical and angry when the world doesn't go that way, as a lot of baby boomers who never grew up seem to feel these days. It probably never turn into some harmonic love fest; there will always be factions and there will always be war.
That said, I doubt this will be a big draw to theater-goers. It's sad that people are trying to compare Iraq to Vietnam, though.
...I've always been more of a George fan, myself. ;)

Date: 2006-07-25 07:56 pm (UTC)I read some things on Lennon that were rather telling of his true nature. Some of his hero's and favorite books were kind of off a peaceful road. One of his hero's was satanist, Aleister Crowley.
Plus everyone seems to forget that it is fairly easy for a guy being chauffered around and having a few homes to have candy-coated dreams. He was totally detached from real life and what his rantings and protests would do to our guys who were defending our country and his freedom.
Like you said, his music=good. Personal life=not.

Date: 2006-07-26 02:35 am (UTC)However I have to say that he did have a tendency to be able to mold people's opinions. Pretty good for a chauffered, rich guy.
I guess my irritation, like today, is people give way too much attention to musicians and actors. They are entertainers, period.

I agree the vietnam was horrible; I don't think you can compare the two wars now, though. That seems silly.
But as my German friend said today, "Lennon, being a big rock star, could of course afford being naive. But we cannot."

Besides I still love McCartney and Wings. :

Date: 2006-07-26 03:11 am (UTC)But it still IRKS the heck out of me when people actually believe that they can implement Lennon's ideas. You can't. Just like Marx's ideas, are really really good ideas...and are nice to think about and strive for, but you can never really implement them well...because of what people are...

Date: 2006-07-26 01:54 pm (UTC)You are correct about the Marx and Lennon ideas thing. Its a very 'idealistic' thing to think about it. Just doesn't work in reality. Kind of like Cuba. There is the Hollywood version of Cuba and then there is the real Cuba.

Date: 2006-07-28 04:25 am (UTC)I wouldn't even say that Crowley was evil. Satanism is pretty much just glorified atheism and self-deification.
