So I check V for Vendetta, a movie that promotes freedom from a facist govenment, and already the liberals are accusing the film of being an attack on Bush.

Nevermind that the original comic was made in the 80s, and wasn't even directed towards America's politics. Go figure, apparently the left believes that every movie is an attack on Bush, when V for Vendetta isn't attacking either side.

Just a note, you have to register to see the boards, so I cannot. But...you say the libs are accusing the movie, does that mean they don't like it? Or are they praising it for being that way?

Though, really, I've seen the commercials and thought "Oh gee, wonder what the libtards are gonna think of this?" and crossed it off my list :P Didn't know it was a comic. *shrug*

They might be right, however, in terms of how the comic was adapted into a movie.

George Lucas claims that he had the prequel trilogy written years ago, yet he still decided to compare Episode 3 to current events.

Regardless as to whether the filmmakers choose to politicize the movie, so many people are politically ignorant that they will make uneducated comparisons as found on IMDB.

Yeah. I think even Natalie Portman said it was about that but I also think in the same sentence she said people can also see it as an attack on something else. I'm probably not gonna see it...mostly because, well, just doesn't interest me.

George Lucas made comments saying Ep3 was about 'current events' and I wanted to kill Hayden Christensen when he said something abut how like, the Emperor is similar to the President. Why are the cute guys so dumb?!

They're not paid to think; they're paid to look pretty.

Ugh. Hayden is Canadian and therefore he has no right to say stuff about the President. I hate crap like that, when famous foreign people start talking about U.S. politics. Like they know. *gags*

I've been tweaked by the previews because they've changed it SOOOOO much from the comic. :-( With all those awful changes, I wouldn't be surprised if they *inserted* Bush-bashing. Guh.

I heard that the directors took it more in an anti-Bush direction, which is such a shame. I really want to see it, though, because I like those sorts of futuristic fascist movies with (hopefully) libertarian undertones.

But mostly I want to see it because I heart Hugo Weaving.

They are anarchist undertones. They seem to have taken it out of the movie, at least looking at previews, but V is an anarchist. My anarchist boyfriend had me read the comic, and the end of it is a frightening endorsement of collectivism.

I am a Reader Response critic, so I believe that the meaning is made by the viewer/reader, not the author. So even if the movie was intended to bash Bush I can just as easily see it as bashing any totalitarian government :-D

Since it was written to bash Thatcher, it's not much of a stretch to extend it to any other conservative leader.

On the otherhand, I think the theme of "terrorism for a better tomorrow" would've played better in the Clinton years, than now.
