I know a couple of you other ladies also watched Down With Love last night. In my opinion: sorta silly movie, but completely worthwhile due to Ewan McGregor's incredible hotness. (And having David Hyde Pierce there too was icing on the cake.) Perhaps I'm geeky (perhaps?), but I was actually more attracted to Ewan with his glasses and Tennessee twang than with his usual suaveness. Though it was a close call.

I am pleased to say we can even morally approve of him. Look at this quote I found in an interview:
"Yeah, yeah, whenever we watched the war coverage from Iraq my wife had to keep reminding me that I'm not a soldier. ...My brother is a fighter pilot in the RAF and I'm an actor. You can't think of two more diverse professions. ...The hatch closed and I could just see a slither of my brother's helmet as we were taxi-ing down the runway and I felt such pride. He's seen all my work and I'd never seen his. He was doing such a manly thing, a proper job for a man. He fucking flies at 500 miles an hour 200 feet above the ground. Incredible. Whereas I wear make-up for a living."

We forgive you for that, Ewan. Yes, we do...

Um, yes, right. Ahem. *waves* Azrhiaz here, and I thought I was the ONLY conservative fangirl on Livejournal. Unless any of you tell me differently, I'll continue assuming I'm the only conservative slashfic author (*laughs*). At any rate, I am ecstatic to be here. My LJ friends and I have long sinced called detente on discussing politics, and it usually isn't one of them that annoys me. Rather, I will stumble across something in a community I'm in that just sets my teeth on edge (case in point: a post to [livejournal.com profile] fellow_shippers the other day by an author whose icon featured Gollum and the caption "Bush is Sauron and we hates him, precious." *grr*). So this is a more than pleasant surprise.

I'm pretty much a huge LOTR geek, and live/breathe/drool the Elijah 24/7. Because, yes. That's pretty. Ewan also much with the good, and Orli, and ohmyword Sean Patrick Flanery. Mmm, pretty. :)

As we know,
There are known knowns.
There are things we know we know.
We also know
There are known unknowns.
That is to say
We know there are some things
We do not know.
But there are also unknown unknowns,
The ones we don't know we don't know.

John Malkovich, 1985
John Malkovich, Today

Conservative John Malkovich caused an outcry last summer when he told a group of Cambridge students he'd like to shoot a certain anti-Israel, anti-American member of Parliament.

Plus, Malkovich Fries French Policy on Iraq: "I don't really care what a lot of European countries say. I've lived in Europe for years. I have a lot of dear friends there. But if you talk about politics, I want to say, if they're so smart, why Franco? Why totalitarianism? Why fascism? Where is your humility? I just think they should be curious about their own regimes… My father was a soldier. My uncle was a soldier. And the reason - and one can't say this enough - that our parents fought and died for things is so that people can get up and shoot off their mouths about things they don't know f---all about. About things they don't know the end result about, where they're just guessing."

But, maybe I'm the only one who finds him attractive.
