Heather MacDonald over at City Journal makes this intriguing observation:

"If the government's failure to get help instantly to Katrina victims reflects American racism, why have the images of thousands of poor, displaced blacks triggered the greatest outpouring of charity in American history?"

and

"While the race-mongers try to stoke blacks' suspicion of whites, the public is showing that it regards all Americans, whatever their color or economic situation, as brothers and sisters. That people are giving so feverishly in spite of the competing images of looting by the flood victims and the reports of murder and rape is even stronger proof that racism has lost its grip on the American mind: the givers are refusing the bigot's reaction of impugning an entire race by the loathsome behavior of a few."

Read the whole thing for yourself, if you like.

I love it. I love this part: When the allegedly evil Wal-Mart is accused of exploiting the working class, one might ask why it opened up its warehouses and unleashed its manpower as no other corporation has done to help the homeless. Bahahaha! Show 'em who's boss, Sam. I volunteered at a Katrina relief supply drive, and let me tell you, Wal-Mart owned.

Articles like these are great because they highlight the biggest problem liberals cause for themselves and others: complaining about [usually imagined] offenses but offering no explanation or solution.

Awesome article. And speaking of racial demagogues, where is Jesse Jackson, anyway? He showed up, got on camera a few times to stir up the masses, and we haven't seen him since.

Maybe he tok a busload of evacuees to his house and he's busy settling them in and enrolling their kids in school. Yeah, that must be it.

You shouldn't be proud of ignorance, you know.

I haven't looked at the article yet (though I intend to) but I wanted to comment that there is a reverse racism going on. The white people in Mississippi are not getting anywhere near the level of assisstance the black people in New Orleans are getting, even though Mississippi was every bit as hard-hit as New Orleans.

I grabbed one of the engineers from the math club (he's from Mexico) and got an interview with him last week. Thanks, though, and tell your mom thank you for her kindness!
