I just heard that there was supposed to be some kind of Buy Starbucks day in (further) reaction to last week's Chick-Fil-A day. I didn't notice anything myself; did it come off?
A PR fizzle. It was advertised late and there are so many Starbucks that any presence gets absorbed easily. Plus the "executives at the coffee chain had privately pushed organizers to include other companies that support same-sex unions -- such as Amazon.com and Nike." Here (http://www.latimes.com/business/money/la-fi-mo-chickfila-starbucks-gay-20120806,0,2945774.story) So since I don't go out much during the summer, I indulged in Amazon. Sadly online retail isn't that photogenic.
Starbucks is already a colossally succesful world-wide behemoth. There's simply no comparison, and therefore this idea is a really stupid and pointless one.
It's also the type of place where many people go every single day and order the exact same item, every time. In other words, going to Starbucks is not "making a statement" in any way. They're already busy and they already have loads of customers. Ordering your coffee in the exact same manner that you do every single day is not any type of gesture or statement. It's not like they're struggling and they *need* the extra customers :P
If anything, people who tried this would be endorsing globalization by going there instead of patronizing a locally-owned, independent coffee house :P
No, I understood you. My comment could have been a lot clearer. The "lucky" part was somewhat sarcastic, and the CFA part was meant to show how I'm in the "opposite" situation.

Date: 2012-08-11 12:13 am (UTC)I meant Starbucks, not CFA. I don't even think there's a CFA in WA, at all.
If there were, they'd probably have been pipe-bombed by black-clad "tolerant progressives", by now.
Seattle is the 8th circle of leftism. Portland OR is the 9th :P
