... and I liquidated our every position in equities toward the end of the day.

For the first time since 2001, we're entirely ex-equities.

(As a testament to the madness of our fiat currency, some of the assets were passed down through family from 1950 and before - and we're having to pay capital gains on the non-real, i.e. paper, gains created by inflation. Absolute injustice. Capital gains taxes should immediately be applied only to *real* gains, not nominal.)

Anyway, it feels wonderful to be out of the moribund and into the realer world. We just looked at rental properties in a solid area of the state - to own free and clear.

The future just started to look a lot brighter.

Next big step: buying rental property, then developing the farmland for real - out of cashflow!

It's a sad state of affairs when it's better to let go of assets because the tax rates are heading for the stratosphere.

Now if only I could convince my husband to sell all of his assets and get out of the stock market now...

My husband won't, though we don't have a lot in the stock market. His grandfather made a fortune (let's just say when he dies, we are set for life and so is his brother and so will our children), but I don't see how staying in with that is a good idea these days... My dad lost his inheritance in the stock market. :/

I have no idea. I think he should. I should ask him about it...

Galt's Gulch and the Gold Standard. Can't go wrong with that!

I'll remember you said that, when I show up with a suitcase in one hand, and a bag of heirloom seeds in the other! ;-)
