Breitbart.com has an interesting take on this, which is that this is yet another example of Obama manipulating his public persona for different purposes at different times. And certainly, he is known to do that.
I have never been a birther. I've always felt it was just too much of a conspiracy theory for me to really buy into. I think this is weird, but beyond that...I dunno. The article is essentially documentation of the vetting and fact-checking BigGov did on this piece of information. So I put it to y'all, who are informed and intelligent people: what do you think about this?

Date: 2012-05-17 08:34 pm (UTC)Dick Morris was cautiously talking super-majority in the Senate back in March. And that was before Elizabeth Warren's Cherokee heritage went up in smoke signals.
Here in Texas, I'm pulling for Ted Cruz for US Senate to replace the RINO Kay Baily Huchinson.

Date: 2012-05-17 07:37 pm (UTC)But even if he were born in Kenya, his mother is an American, so he has birthright citizenship. So a Constitutional crisis would not be necessary. Unless his mother isn't his mother, which would also be...weird.
Argh! Why? Why, why, why, in the name of all things rational and sane, would anyone lie about themselves as much as he has? At this point, every single origin story about him all sound equally plausible, valid, and fact-based! It's completely ridiculous!

Some commentary to better address your contention. 47 years to create an image, only to be undone in only 3-4. Amazing.

I wouldn't put either one past Obama as he seems to be a very dishonest person who is only out for his own advancement and couldn't care less about the country.
The Zelig Presidency
Date: 2012-05-17 09:46 pm (UTC)The pamphlet may be nothing more than Obama pulling an Elizabeth Warren and playing up his multiculti background to stand out (though Obama is genuinely of African descent, while Warren is whiter than Wonder bread). I'm almost certain he has portrayed himself as a foreigner to get into college, to get scholarships, etc.. They made a big deal out of Michele Bachmann's dual citizenship-by-marriage with Switzerland but Obama likely has multiple citizenships (Indonesia, Kenya) he has used at times for his own advantage.
But there are some lingering questions/issues. You get the feeling of, "What are they trying to hide?"
Re: The Zelig Presidency
Date: 2012-05-17 09:52 pm (UTC)I lived in Indonesia until May 2002. Went to high school there and everything. But I went to an international school, rather than an Indonesian one. And this is significant because, Indonesia only allowed you to attend Indonesian schools if you were an Indonesian citizen. And they did not allow dual citizenship with the United States. That has since changed, but prior to '02, you had to pick one. And we know that Obama went to an Indonesian school. Now, I have no doubt that somebody was paid something to allow Obama to attend the school he did (which is an entirely normal thing in Indonesia), but I've always been surprised that the Birther movement didn't push harder in this direction.

Date: 2012-05-18 05:13 am (UTC)An individual who actually WAS born abroad but came to the US as an infant and grew up in a patriotic, mainstream American home would actually be more American, culturally and psychologically, than Obama.
I'm inclined to think that birthright citizenship should be done away with, anyway.

Date: 2012-05-19 01:11 am (UTC)No, I don't think that can ever happen. I don't want someone acting as an agent for say, Iran or China or any of our enemies being elected to the highest office in our country (and at this point, the most powerful position in the world) and then destroying the USA from within. Not to say that couldn't happen via a natural-born U.S. citizen, but its far more likely to happen with someone born and raised overseas.

Date: 2012-05-19 04:42 am (UTC)I think you may have misunderstood my meaning. I don't mean "doing away with the requirement that the POTUS must be a natural-born citizen." I agree that the POTUS needs to be a natural-born citizen.
I mean we should do away with the idea that being born on US soil automatically makes you a citizen.
I'm talking about being MORE stringent about citizenship, not less. I.E., if Mom and Dad are illegals who crossed over this morning from Tijuana and gave birth to you in San Diego, that should not make you a citizen. No more "anchor babies."
I could go for something like "in order to be a natural-born citizen, at least one of your parents needs to already be a citizen and needs to have resided here continuously for the past ten years." Something like that.
