Mod Post: Public Service Announcement

Since this is an election season I've been expecting an influx of activity in the community and I am so excited that things are finally starting to rev up again. Two reminders to keep the peace so we all have a great time in the upcoming months:

When creating a post, please use the tag system so we can keep our posts organized. There are a lot of great resources posted so keeping them tidy for later use is appreciated. If any tags are needed, please let me know and I will create them.

I have received complaints about a few new members who are not conservatives or anywhere on the "right" scale. Now, while I do not have a problem with discussions where opinions differ on issues, if civility is lost and trolling occurs, the user(s) will no longer have access to the community. As our user information clearly states:

We welcome anyone who calls herself a conservative and a fangirl...If you have come to "correct" our posters, "enlighten" us to facts, or otherwise engage us in debate, you are not welcome.

Go to ontd_political or debate if you are not going to remain civil and harass/heckle/bait those you disagree with. This goes for everyone irregardless of political leanings. As of yet I am not going to ban anyone since some of the discussions are valid, but from this point on there will be no tolerance for obnoxiousness and baiting. This community is a "safe place" for consevatives as the userinfo clearly says. If you want to engage in debate or banter, you can do it elsewhere.

Personally, I have no problems with liberals or people who have differing opinions on politics posting in this community. (Sincerely of my closest friends is Pro-Choice, agnostic, extreme leftist...and we've been friends for like 8 years now.) However, when members feel as if this is not a safe place to post their opinions without creating an unessesary debate, that is where I draw the line.

Can you point out a few occasions when you've done that? All I see is snark like this:
"Because there are no conservatives in liberal communities. Nope, never happens. "
"Leftist commie bastards are not allowed to speak freely. Only true real American patriots can. "
"The lord is testing me. "
"What if you agree with something here and are a nasty liberal? Am I not allowed to even agree? "

In what way do you consider yourself a valuable poster? Do you *ever* contribute anything but vitriol?

Lol. I already know members who have created accounts just to come here and stir trouble. However, I want to give them a chance (just one) and if they don't play nice they can go to another playground.

FYI: Some comments in this post have been frozen as not to allow even more debate to erupt over this issue. If you all want to bicker over which members of particular communities or parties are worse, do it in your own community or through the message system.

Thank you for this post. I don't care what political party a poster is from. I'm not a member of the Republican party. I'm an Independent. However, I'm typically conservative on my financial/economy views, illegal immigrant views (note I said illegal. I love legal immigrants - I am one), defense of the country. I'm more liberal on social issues as people who have checked out my user page can tell you.

And I don't need or expect everyone to agree with me. I love discussion. But when someone comes on the site to post a snarky comment to every single comment of every singe thread, I consider that trolling with no value whatsoever to the discourse. And note I said snarky, not vitriol. I don't want an issue out of every view or comment I make. Discussion would be great, but a smart mouthed comment? No thanks.

And not talking to anyone specific. A person would know if the shoe fits or not. You want to talk to me in a rational manner about how Ms. Fluke set back the women's movement 40 years by wanting the *Daddy Government* to buy her contraceptives and take care of her (or force someone else to. Same thing as far as I'm concerned)? I'll be glad to have that discussion. I am an independent woman who supported herself, a disabled husband and 2 children even while I put myself through college and obtained a degree. No handouts here. I was proud as a liberated female that NO ONE had to take care of me. That's the point of liberation! I'm my own woman and no one has to care for me and I don't have to answer to anyone for my needs. Ms. Fluke allowed herself to be trotted out by the Democrats like a show pony for their little spectacle. Not as a Republican, not as a Democrat, but as a woman, she made me ashamed.

I don't mind anyone disagreeing with that. But I don't want snark, I don't need correcting as if I'm an idiot and I won't accept self-righteousness or contempt.

Tell me about it. I had a EGD in 2000 and my gastritis was so bad my GI doc was worried about me getting esophageal cancer at some point in my life. But I've been on Pepcid twice a day since then and usually do okay. I just can't eat very spicy or hot foods.
