My parents live in Wisconsin, and until very recently, so did I. I love Gov. Scott Walker, and I have been quite appalled by union activity against him, but this is just awful.

I am also familiar with the Messmer program. It is a great school with an incredible success rate. I believe something like 85% of Messmer High students go on to attend college. So the fact that union thugs disrupted this elementary school with a rowdy and rude protest makes me feel sick.

Also, it seems relevent to point out that the vast majority of the Messmer students are African American. Yet when a bunch of white protesters show up at their school, a school that helps them succeed in inner-city Milwaukee, no cries of racism are heard. If republicans or tea partiers had shown up to protest Pres. Obama reading to kids at a primarily minority-attended school, you can bet that the MSM would have been all over that.

I haven't been keeping up with this particular issue. But after viewing that video, I am more lost than ever. Here's a school that seems to be working very well and serving its students admirably. The students are learning not only academics, but also how to be respectful, responsible citizens/members of society.

Aren't all of these things good things? Or did someone turn the world upside down on me while I was sleeping? Therefore, what on earth are those people protesting?!

Teachers' unions were NEVER about helping students. Unions, by their very definition, are about the MEMBERS. Students are NOT members.

Wow. In a normal universe, you see something that is helping people and achieving good results and you cheer it on and try to emulate it. You don't try to kill it.

Most days, I feel like I'm from another planet.

I suppose you're right. But these are the same people who are always emoting about 'THE CHILDREN!', so I figured it would be different.

I know, I know. Silly me.

Dear goodness, the ads from the teacher's union in NYS are the worst* for this... -_-;

* May not actually be the worst. But definitely equate children's welfare with supporting the teacher's union.
