You are correct my first reaction was definitely, WTFOMGBBQ? What on earth is going on? I can certainly see how it could be satire ("Again, I know Anthony Weiner would never do anything like this is because, you see, we’ve never met. But we share many political views.")

However, they are not The Onion where you KNOW their news stories are fake/satirical. They take themselves so seriously at times you really don't know if they are believing what they say or if it's just for a big laugh.

Having looked at the original now, I do think it's snark. But there's an uneasy acknowledgment among some commenters that some people there just might take that sort of thing seriously. One person wrote, "At this point, if people don't recognize this diary as snark, then it does show how delusional people can be ... even here, where we're supposedly to be the reality-based community."
