Lisa Edelstein's MoveOn.Org ad
Feb. 19th, 2011 07:30 pmWe all had a good laugh at Olivia Wilde's "Message from the FUTURE" political ad from the superior minds at MoveOn.Org. Apparently, her "House" co-star Lisa Edelstein has a new MoveOn.Org ad, based on recent Republican efforts to defund Planned Parenthood. Unlike the Wilde ad, the ad's tone definitely doesn't tend toward Narm Charm. (If you read TV Tropes.org, you'll grasp the meaning quickly.) Click the YouTube link, and view for yourselves.

The Busters have done a superb job in researching Edelstein's political activism/leftism:

I'll forego any other commentary, and let you all sound off, as always.
Exit question: Shall we expect Jennifer Morrison to do one, next? Bear in mind I don't know Morrison's politics, though, the current trend of "House" actresses being employed by MoveOn.org is quite fascinating.
Update: Mprice in the Comments poses a great question about mixing messages, as Edelstein's House character previously had a quest to become pregnant. How about that?

Date: 2011-02-20 12:38 am (UTC)I had a soft spot for Edelstein, from her voicing Mercy Graves from Kids WB's Superman series. Although, the ad rather killed that for me. Hah....
Don't waste your time, as I had to see it for context. 30 seconds I'll never get back.

Date: 2011-02-20 01:01 am (UTC)Exactly, females are still ABLE to get abortions, just not have tax payers pay for them...even though Planned Parenthood (that has roots in eugenics!!!!!) is not just about abortions and they have been proven to be corrupt.

Date: 2011-02-20 03:28 am (UTC)I'm as pro-life as they come, but statements like this make me want to move to America and start going on pro-choice marches with NARAL and PP and the like.
There are many reasons why women seek abortions. Yes, some have been irresponsible and promiscious. But even more haven't. Some are married, and just don't want more children. Some don't have the resources to raise a child, or don't want to put a career on hold, even if they have loving long-term partners to help. Some may have been using birth control, and it failed. Some just don't know about the consequences of sex, because their education has not included comprehensive sex education (which has most often disappeared from school curriculums due to conservative policies).
If pro-lifers are expected to make any gains in the modern world, change has to happen within first. Screaming religious slogans, using fear tactics or calling women who have unplanned pregnancies sluts is not going to win any hearts and minds. Supporting comprehensive sex education, supporting birth control (heck, even just condoms if hormonal birth control makes you nervous about its potential abortificaent effects), providing full financial assistance to women in unplanned pregnancies who would like to raise a child but don't have the resources to do so, being inclusive of the GLBT community, making adoption easier.... THAT will win hearts and minds. And it is the only hope that the pro-life movement has for survival.

Date: 2011-02-20 01:03 am (UTC)So now we have a fake doctor telling women what procedure is good for them to have? Considering my pro-abortion uni professor told me to my face that she would not want to know what doctors would be doing to her during an abortion or any other surgical procedure…the liberals do not women to be informed about what so called “doctors” are doing to their body by extracting an unborn child early…just accept it and move on. (pun not intended)
I am just thankful I did not like her in the first place.

Date: 2011-02-20 03:51 am (UTC)But man, I really wish idiots like her would stop acting like abortion is helping anyone. It's killing innocent life and it does nothing but add emotional trama to the woman who get them.
As for Cuddy trying to get pregnant and later adopting a child. I don't think LE's stance takes anything away from that story. House has many contradictions within the show to do that.
Hell I remember an episode I really loathe where a pregnant rape victim ended up bonding with House. The end result was her getting an abortion. It was supposed to be a moving episode but all it did was piss me off. All I could think about was that girl having to deal with the trama from her rape with the addition of the confusion and trama from her abortion with no support from anyone, least of all House(a drug addict with emotional issues who had no business advising her.)
And in another episode House is pushing for a middle aged woman to get an abortion to save her life, while Cuddy is pushing to save her and her baby. There is a scene where they are operating and the baby grabs House's finger, and at the end of the episode House tells Cuddy she got lucky saving the woman and baby and that 99.9% of the time abortion is the way to go, but is shown rubbing that same finger the baby grabbed in the closing scene.
In another episode(I can't fully remember) a pregnant teen is given an abortion and the law prevents her parents from being told what is happening.

Date: 2011-02-20 03:58 am (UTC)However, you're right, as the show is full of contradictions. Of course, what would one except from the slogan, "everyone lies"?
Indeed, as the jerkass aspects of everyone in the show doesn't make me want to connect in any way. (That, and the fandom is nucking futs, but fun to watch them wank.)

Date: 2011-02-21 10:15 pm (UTC)Recently, though, I have noticed Edelstein can be quite a ditz. She won some award recently (People's Choice? I don't really remember) and her acceptance speech was one of the most awkward and silly things I have seen in a long time. Even interviews she has on red carpets and whatnot often don't leave her looking that intelligent. Her involvement with this garbage just proves that she is a good actor, but not much else.
I remember the rape victim episode. Pissed me off like none-other. The girl wanted to keep the baby, but House harassed her about her religious beliefs until she got an abortion. On the other hand, the episode where Cuddy advocates for the middle-aged woman and her decision to keep the baby was probably one of my favorites. Though House claims to think that the abortion would have been the best option, his body language says otherwise. Hugh Laurie is a fantastic actor, and he beautifully conveys that his character is saying one thing while believing another.
