In his speech and in an interview, Dr. Haidt argued that social psychologists are a “tribal-moral community” united by “sacred values” that hinder research and damage their credibility — and blind them to the hostile climate they’ve created for non-liberals.

LOL! Guess he won't be given many more invites for speeches and interviews anymore.

I'm shocked! But sadly, I doubt anything will come from this great discovery.

Oh my God, I about cried reading this. And I mean that in a good way. That line about hiding views and not voicing yourself? Pretty much how I am. And it REALLY sucks because I'm an art major and a loudmouth, so it's hard to keep things to myself. :I

Why did I read the comments? WHY DON'T I EVER LEARN???? :(

Liberal academia has wreaked havoc on everything. Aside from the article's point about how liberal academics in psychology will brush off a finding if it contradicts their liberal beliefs, there's also the problem that it's increasingly difficult to find professors who are willing to teach the basics of a subject before delving into postmodernist minutia.

At least within my field (art, specifically animation), many students have a great thirst for knowledge on how to draw the human figure. The problem is, however, that it's damned hard to find someone who will actually teach that. You want to throw piss on a canvas? Cool. Want to suspend a dead shark in formaldehyde? Awesome. Want to draw a nude model? NOT HAPPENING, YOU UNCOOL, TALENTLESS DICK.

Speaking as someone trying to put together a spring semester schedule that ISN'T overrun with flagrantly biased classes (I'll settle for moderately biased at this point): NO SHIT.

UGH, yes.

I lucked out with my Chinese history class this semester because my professor grew up in China and has plenty to say about how much communism/socialism sucks. Medieval legal history of England has been pretty tame, too. But my two Anthro classes have been...trials in patience.

This is why I went to a Christian school. I got a fabulous education from St Andrews and Oxford educated professors without worrying about historical relativism and BS like that, woo!

This article reminds me of my class in Poli Sci. One girl used to complain about Bush almost every class. One day, she declares, "I have never met a republican. I don't think they exist!"

My teacher, a liberal mind you, asked for the Republicans to raise their hand. It was about 1/2 the class... 1/2 the class that never talked. My teacher asked one about why he never spoke up and he cited that he felt his ideas weren't welcome.

What was the teacher's response? Did the class change at all after that?

He used it as a response to the girl. She did curb her tone but only a little bit.
