Sarah Palin has now responded to the Gabrielle Giffords shooting, via Glenn Beck's radio show. (I should note that her response is an email Beck read aloud in the show.) Pick your version, and read onward:

I'll also include Ed Morrissey's take, as he also notes on two essential pieces from Slate and Der Spiegel. The former is about the ramifications of "banning the violent rhetoric," while the latter suggests that the current Palin blame could easily backfire.

As always, you make the call.

Thank you for this. I will be reading it when I'm in a better frame of mind. Right now I am afraid she's going to make the error that I already see conservatives making - getting on the defensive and apologizing all over the place.

People, when someone makes an accusation against you - especially something as serious as accusing you of being responsible for the murder of multiple human beings - when this happens, it is up to the ACCUSER to make his case. It is not up to you, the accused, to refute it before they even attempt to make it. What you need to do is hold their feet to the fire* until they admit they have no case. (Or y'know, until they scream and swear and end the conversation by calling you silly names.)

This is a critical error. And I see it every single time something like this happens. The only thing becoming defensive does is make YOU look guilty of what they are accusing you of!

The thing is, conservatives do often feel guilty, because they are good people who cannot imagine wishing or causing death to someone. The same is not true of the Left, especially the Professional Left. By that, I mean the (so-called) journalists, politicians, commentators and others who gleefully make these accusations, while all the time doing the same thing themselves. They do not feel guilty.

Understand that we are in a war here - a war of ideologies. Understand who the enemy is. Understand their tactics. Don't fall for their traps!

* For the metaphorically-challenged, this means that you keep asking them to bring their evidence, don't let them get away with using false things as "evidence", don't let them use name calling as a method of debate, and don't let them change the topic.

Interesting that the shooter was obsessed with Giffords since 2007 when he attended a rally and questioned her in his non-sensical fashion. Sarah Palin wasn't even on the political radar, nor was her 'target' web page....And the Tea Party hadn't yet brewed a cup.

Apparently he was mad because she didn't answer his question: What is government if words don't mean anything?
