Dude.

Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann and Howard Fineman react to President Obama's Oval Office Address on the oil spill. Here are the highlights of what the trio said:

Olbermann: "It was a great speech if you were on another planet for the last 57 days."

Matthews compared Obama to Carter.

Olbermann: "Nothing specific at all was said."

Matthews: "No direction."

Howard Fineman: "He wasn't specific enough."

Olbermann: "I don't think he aimed low, I don't think he aimed at all. It's startling."

Howard Fineman: Obama should be acting like a "commander-in-chief."

Matthews: Ludicrous that he keeps saying [Secretary of Energy] Chu has a Nobel prize. "I'll barf if he does it one more time."

Matthews: "A lot of meritocracy, a lot of blue ribbon talk."

Matthews: "I don't sense executive command."

Now I haven't gotten to listen to or read Obama's speech from tonight, but if this is the cheerleader's reaction to the home team's performance, then just...dayum. Sounds like he really struck out with this one. Anyone who did hear/read it already care to opine? :)

So Obama appeared on our TV screen and without blinking reported to us the following:

1. He was participating in the fight against the spill from THE VERY BEGINNING and even send there a Nobel Winner.
2. Thanks to OUR work, things are getting better. And under OUR control BP is fixing all those problems.
3. It is clear that BP did not follow the safety standards. So he is establishing a commission which will check if BP followed the safety standards.
4. Tomorrow he will tell CEO of BP how much money BP has to put into the special escrow fund. Courts are for losers, Obama has better methods!
5. Moratorium on drilling. All the people in the trade and supplies of course will loose jobs, but that's for their own good
6. Federal organization that suppose to oversee the drilling was completely corrupted - and Obama heroically was fighting them, but it's not his fault but his predecessors.
7. And of course there are simply not enough regulation.Кроме того, слишком мало регуляций. (The more power a bureaucrat has - the less corruption there is!)

And the most important. The reason why this disaster is so huge and difficult to put out - because they were drilling far off shore in deep waters. And they were doing so because there's no more oil near the shores of the USA! So we need to finish it up with oil and embrace smart technologies that will drop to us from heavens once the government will raise the taxes to pay for them.

I think that's it... did I miss anything?

Nope and all in less time than it took for Dr. Utopia to say it.

Now I can't wait to hear how Rush tears it all apart. As you said, if that's how the cheerleaders talked about it....

I've been reading the Washington Post for 30 years and this was the first time I ever recall there not being an analysis of a President's speech the next day in the Style section. Not one word. I thought that was odd until I read this.

Thank God for Hugh Hewitt's radio version, as I could never have watched that thing cold.
