"Calling a Christmas tree a 'holiday tree' is like calling a menorah a 'holiday candleabra'" - a friend of mine

Except that there's at least one other religion who uses a tree for their holiday. So it *is* a holiday tree, if you want to be fair about it.

*blinks* There is? I didn't know that. Man, you learn something new every day...

I still think we should get all the seasonal religious displays, line 'em up on the street and light 'em all at once. It'd be pretty, inclusive, and so well lit that we'd need sunglasses at night. ^_^ KC

Yup. Earth-centered neo-Pagans and Wiccans have a Solstice Tree, we decorate ours much the same way as Christians do, although some of us might be a bit more likely to use biodegradable decorations.

And I love, *love* that suggestion. I think that would be incredibly cool. :D

And if you think about Kwanzaa, they use a "candelabra," too.

OH well...It's a CHRISTMAS tree....other people celebrate it too (I don't think that's right...It's CHRISTIAN holiday!)

Bah humbug. I'm an atheist, and I'll continue to celebrate Christmas till the day I die. :)

Besides, the Christian holiday quite coincidentally occurs at the same time of year as several other holy days and festivals.

Note that I completely hate the word "atheist," as if being against religion is my religion, which it's not. But it's shorthand, and it gets the point across, I suppose...

On the first day of "non-offensive federal holiday" my true love gave to me.....

To heck with trying to please and not offend and include everybody...

IT'S A CHRISTMAS TREE! CALL IT THAT!!!

Political correctness robs everything of meaning; at best what you have left is boring and bland.

i think maybe..

Except that it isn't exclusive of Christmas, and wasn't originally a Christian tradition, but a more pagan one, as far as I know. I have no idea if the Menorrah always a Judaic tradition, but I assume so.

But calling your Christmas tree a "holiday tree" is pretty annoying. :)
