This is exciting: Sarah Palin to be a Fox News Contributor (and I almost missed it on Yahoo's front page)
At first, I thought she was getting her own show, but she's just going to be a guest commentator from time to time (like on one segment of O'Reilly or on Hannity's Great American Panel). I think I prefer this. I don't know about you, but Huckabee's random "jamming out" with Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc. isn't exactly endearing...
But yay for more Sarah! :)

Date: 2010-01-12 04:03 am (UTC)You're from Jacksonville? I spent 18 months there in 2008-09. What area are you in?

Date: 2010-01-12 02:34 pm (UTC)I am now! I grew up in the Midwest, and let me tell ya, Jax is SO much better. I live on the westside in Cedar Hills, and absolutely love it. Riverside/Avondale has nothing on us when it comes to walking to everything. =oD
So were you in the Navy? That seems to be the usual reason for staying here such a short time.

Date: 2010-01-12 03:47 pm (UTC)I love St. Augustine. LOVE. And not just because I found out in December that they have a place with authentic gelato. (Seems like no one else in the USA can make it right.)
And yeah, Jax is awesome. I grew up in little towns in the ugly midwest, where it was wicked cold in the winter, and then actually hotter in the summer heat-index-wise than Jax gets, for almost as long! Jax is a total upgrade. We get the benefits of Florida - gorgeous beaches, nice weather - without the negatives - lack of seasons (IDK if you noticed while you were here, but Jax actually has all four seasons. They're just a bit skewed from up north.), tourists, and old people!
Where do you live now? Was your time here your 2-year mission work thing required by LDS? You were smart to choose (if you get to choose?) Florida!

Date: 2010-01-12 04:34 pm (UTC)And YES to the gelato! I can't for the life of me remember the name of the stand we would go to (it was right on the beach), but that was amazing ^_^ Personally, I would much rather go to St. Augustine for a Florida vacation than Miami or Orlando. There's plenty to do, it's right on the ocean and there aren't as many crowds and junk.
As far as LDS missions go, it's not really required. It's completely voluntary. The guys are more encouraged to go than the girls are (we joke that the guys need the extra help to mature), but we are given the opportunity. If they go, guys go for two years and girls go for 18 months. And guys usually go when they're about 19 and girls go when they're around 21 (I went when I was 22). We don't get to choose where we go. We send in some paperwork saying that we want to go on a mission and they just send us wherever we are needed. Part of the fun in going is that you don't know where you're going to get sent. I am sooo stinking glad I went to Florida. I don't know if I could have done it if I went to somewhere like Alaska or Siberia.

Date: 2010-01-12 04:42 pm (UTC)Oh yeah, St. Augustine is much better, and not just because I'm a huge beach-lover. (And, especially with Jax beaches, it's awesome because they're so uncrowded compared to Daytona or Miami, but they're just as nice. Well, except right now. I'm betting Miami's water is warmer than 49ยบ!) And if you change your mind? Orlando is only 1.5-2 hours from St. Augustine! It's 2.5 hours from Jax but I've made a day trip of it a few times.
For some reason I thought it was required. Ha! I'm glad it's not, but I'm also glad it's strongly encouraged. It's good for people of our generation and younger to do something that's not at all about us.

Date: 2010-01-12 05:06 pm (UTC)A lot of people think missions are absolutely required. I'm glad I didn't have to go and that it was my choice whether I went or not. I probably wouldn't have noticed if I didn't go. Now that I've done it, I wouldn't trade the experience for anything.

Date: 2010-01-12 02:18 am (UTC)Good for Sarah! Whether she runs in 2012 or some other time, this is a creative way to get her message out there and let her define who she is instead of the MSM.
