I've probably complained before about this kind of thing, but I work at a non-profit religious organization. In our large-group meetings, there is an overwhelming liberal slant. So much so at times that they blatantly mock conservative views. I've heard all the jokes, had to sit quiet while some elder or pastor in a higher position than myself made fun of me in a round-about way. Well, today in our meeting, a few people in front of me had a small jovial exchange about one of last year's buzzwords. Yep, adult, Christian elders, pastors, and educators had a laugh about the word 'teabagging'. I've heard a lot of things, but that was just abhorrent. I realize the 'journalists' they most likely follow use the word freely, hell, even NPR has picked it up like it's as normal and unoffensive as the word tree, but come on, that word is disgusting. Would they stand for it if someone used an equally gross word to refer to what they believed? I think not. Today I am sad for this country and I am sad for my faith. People suck.

Have people actually said that? I shouldn't be surprised, but still... stuff like that makes me really scared for our culture. Rape should NEVER be something to be proud of.

Absolutely. Definitely. Couldn't agree more. Usually I see women use it, since it's women on LJ the most. You can "rape a sandwich" to say you gobbled it down, or "I raped that song" to imply that you took it and spread it around, et-cetera. Using the word casually also takes the seriousness out of the meaning. As if raping were a casual thing to do.

Here's my take on it. The Internet is shock value and that is particularly true with the young, then they take these ideas into real life and they don't compute well -- sort of like not separating fantasy from reality. I think kids, in particular, like the idea of having secret lingo that their parents just don't understand and of course, every generation thinks they invented sex.

I remember when guys couldn't call each other "bitch" enough and that still goes on. I'm not impressed with people being "gay for [insert non-human noun]", or calling things gay loudly in public, or women calling themselves or other females "fags" either. Pornographic image boards are NOT a place to pick up lingo to spread around ppl. Worst or funnies of all, is that kids will be the worst offenders, since they are desperate to sound with it. Eleven year olds squealing, OMG WTF in public (like buses) are my favorite. And yes, I do call them on it and they do actually stop when the rudeness AND lameness are pointed out by an adult. Fancy that. Usually though, everyone suffers in silence and it's actually like the children ARE in charge!
