This is unfortunately a locked post, but if you're a member of [livejournal.com profile] customers_suck, you probably know what I'm talking about. Someone posted about a black family who walked into their restaurant and demanded to be served by a black server. None was available that night, but they continued to demand it, even asking if the girl who worked on the salad bar could serve them (she was the only black worker there that night). Well, apparently the OP used the word uppity to describe the family. Cue 200+ comments about how the OP is racist and that uppity has a racist connotation. The OP apologizes, says she didn't know that and edits the post. That apparently isn't enough for the commenters and they continue to hound the OP about being racist. Bonus wank: 'panties in a bunch' is misogynistic and black people can't be racist as racism = power and privilege.
Beyond all that, the one thing that really gets me is that only one or two people have really commented on how rude the family in the post was.

(Since the comm is currently engaged in the Trayvon Martin shooting, here is my contribution of sorts.)

I would like to bring to your attention Victor Davis Hanson's recently posted "Ten Things That We've Learned from the Trayvon Martin Tragedy." The first three are copied/pasted in the cut below, with the other eight in the accompanying National Review Online link. Read them, heed them and see if you agree or disagree with them.
