Is anyone else watching the healthcare "summit" on CSPAN or whatever? Because I absolutely cannot belive what I'm hearing form these pol's mouths.

I'm hearing about how the healthcare companies (they're naming names, too) operate "unregulated, unfettered, for profit only." How they're "sharks beneath the surface" waiting to prey upon the unfortunate. I'm also hearing about how the individual mandate is "OK" because we need to force young people to get insurance to support the older, higher-risk populations. The man making this remark is Jay Rockefeller and he used his own son as an example of a young, healthy person who chooses not to get insurance. Well, can't Mr. Rockefeller afford it even if his son can't? So why is he not responsible for the results of his choice, e.g the insane hospital bill he'll incur if he has an accident? Instead of saying "you reap what you sow," Mr. Rockefeller's solution is to make it against the law for us to choose.

So far the discussion time is incredibly unbalanced - the Democrats have had almost 3 times as much tiime to discuss their points as the Republicans. Also, according to Obama, his speaking time "doesn't count" because he's POTUS.

The great nanny-state line? "Some say not all decisions should come from Washington. Well, sometimes the decisions DO need to come from Washington in order to protect the consumer."

A lady from Tennessee is speaking right now advocating inter-state competition. I don't know for sure if she's Republican but she is on the right track.

Annnnd Obama is telling her "I like inter-state competition. Now let's accomplish that by creating a "national exchange" [aka the individual mandate]" to force that and to force everyone to subsidize everyone else. Oh, and he's just said that he was against the individual mandate before. Oh man.
