Tired of the usual "Bush Lied, People Died" ignorance? Looking for a pithy response. Well, I'm not going to say it any better, or more concisely than this guy:
"RH" on Sadaam, Bush and the Big-Bad-Bushiter-Lied, Lie
Oh heck. Here's the second one, in full:
Big Ol Mean Mr. Bush didn't lie to you.
According to the best intel available, from both our own country and every other country in the world, Saddam Hussein had restarted his WMD programs.
According to the previous administration, Saddam Hussein was in pursuit of WMD programs.
According to the testimony of refugees from Iraq, Saddam was in pursuit of WMD programs.
Demonstrated by how Saddam himself behaved, by alternately obstructing and deporting the weapons inspectors, double-shuffling his paperwork, and failing to account for the WMDs he was already known to still possess at the end of the first Gulf War, he was wisely believed by shrewd people to still be in pursuit of WMD programs.
Mean Ol Mr. Bush didn't lie to you. He told you exactly what every possible piece of evidence indicated.
And henceforth, all evidence of Hussein's bio and chemo warfare projects mysteriously failed to make the evening news. Such as mustard gas residue in the Euphrates. A stockpile of empty chemical weapon shells. Several TONS of radioactive material. Laboratories so "hot" they had to send for rad-suits before they could even enter.
The fact that, in the weeks leading up to the war, while the UN sat around furiously masturbating, there was a steady convoy of trucks from Saddam's Iraq to the Sudan...
No, we didn't find new WMD stockpiles. Nor did we find any trace of the WMDs he had still possessed when he signed the ceasefire... of their existence, whereabouts, or destruction. Enough poison to turn the Eastern seaboard into a mass graveyard vanished without a trace.
The man was a murdering megalomaniac in possession of a stockpile of chemical and bio weapons, a desert country the size of California, and a few thousand soldiers with shovels. YOU do the math. And if you think that's unlikely, keep in mind, the man buried his entire fleet of fighter jets. and the only reason anyone found them was a soldier humping through the desert spotted a tailfin sticking out of the sand.
And again, for the ten thousandth time, the WMD issue was only one of a LIST of reasons given by both the president and in the final Congressional declaration of military action. It was the media, not the administration, that presented the WMDs as if they were the first, last, and sole reason for the war. Then, when no cool photo-ops materialized of American soldiers standing triumphant on piles of evil-looking warheads and missiles (or choking to death on clouds of toxic gas), the press started bitching like a little kid who found out there was no cherry on his icecream sundae.
You were not "lied to." You were given the same information that our government, our military, and our President was on the matter. Quit calling people who have been forthright with you "liars."
