Last night, I posted a link to a petition to have the next SW movie shown to the troops upon its release. I thought that with this being a fannish community as well as one where people would support the military, people would be interested.
A couple of people left some messages saying snarky things like "I wouldn't want to inflict it on the troops." I didn't ask for snark about my fandom. When I posted on the original petition thread that I didn't appreciate those comments, I got more snark in return.
I don't bash LOTR, Star Trek, or anything else here. If it interests me, I weigh in. If it doesn't, I move on. With so many people here from so many different fandoms the only way this is going to work is if we at the very least show some respect for each other's interests. If not, I have no business being here. It's nice to have a place to vent about other issues but at the end of the day, I would rather not spend extra time having my fannish interests trashed or being personally insulted.
