It also ties into President Obama's call for "civility" after the Giffords shooting. Of course, his side continued to say really nasty things both before AND after the incident. I guess civility is what the other side does ...

I think a lot more people would have, if not let it slide, at least not be as infuriated if he hadn't mentioned his daughters -- because in doing so, and in then turning a blind eye to attacks against conservatives, he comes off as a tremendous hypocrite.

Also, remember after the Ft. Hood shooting? Everything was coming out about the shooter's Muslim background, his contacts with radical figures, and what he was screaming while he was on his shooting rampage, and yet Obama was telling people not to jump to conclusions. Then with the incident recently where a soldier killed 16 people in Kandahar (a horrible tragedy itself), Obama immediately labelled the soldier a murderer, without giving a second pause to unearth anything about the soldier's background (how many tours had he served, had he suffered any serious injuries recently, did he have any mental health issues, etc). Obama's double standard's been well known throughout his Presidency.
