Professor says "F*%$ you, Republicans"

As an officer at my university's College Republicans chapter, this type of story almost makes me nauseous. A professor at the University of Iowa responded to a mass email sent out by the CRs with an email that simply said "F*%$ you, Republicans." This is someone who is paid by the tax payers of Iowa and probably has had conservative students at one time or another.

I find her "apologies" even MORE insulting than her initial statement. Thoughts?

funny, most universities i know have such language as grounds for dismissal. what do you bet she would be out on her ear if it had been a "approved LIBERAL email" she responded to that way.

I don't have much of anything else to say, but I freaking LOVE that the College Republicans are going to have an "Animal Rights BBQ" and that the professor's offended by that. (Though I guess she's just kind of grasping at straws at that point in that particular fauxpology email reply.)

Ohhhhh nooooo, the College Republican called the professor by her first name. Somebody call the cops.

Her "apology" is the one that kills me about the whole thing. Not that she sent this back to them (professionalism yay!), but that she replied with "apologize for any affront to anyone’s delicate sensibilities".

Delicate sensibilities. So we're being sensitive to her obvious correctness by being offended when she screams obscenities at us. Right. Sure. Uh-huh.

I find it incredibly ironic that she's offended by the term "conservative coming out week" when her actions demonstrate clearly the very real pressure on young conservatives to stay "in the closet".

Another example of how the education system is being taken over by liberal assholes. You know how the Jihads are gaining their influence? Education. They take over the education institutes and teach entire generations to be suicide bombers, murder people and how to stop obeying the very Qur'an they supposedly teach.

Did anyone else find the alleged apology disturbing?

She very clearly outlines the contents of the email as "extremely offensive, nearly rising to the level of obscenity." She's not even arguing for herself or her reasons, she's still trying to attack the messages within the original letter! All she wants to do is argue the issues, not the fact that she completely bashed a sect of students. She wants to be able to debate with students-not act like an adult and a "example."

I thought liberals were supposed to be open minded.

"I do apologize for my intemperate language, but the message you all sent out was extremely disturbing and offensive."

Translation: I'm sorry I was stupid enough to leave my university creditials in the email, but I am excused because what you snot-nosed pigs wrote is just WRONG.

Seriously, professors have been fired for so much less than this. How does this woman still have a job at this university? She'd be out on her rear end if I had the power. You can't debase students like this. You should NOT be allowed to preach your ideals (as the woman so clearly does) as radically as you want and then condem others for DARE having an opinion and possessing the skill and advantages to share it with others. I sincerely believe that it's teachers like this who don't teach because they want people to learn, but they teach because they see their podium as a pedestal where they can spout off whatever they want. And because we pay an arm and a leg for that class, we HAVE to sit there and listen to it. It's a total power trip for people like this woman, and it makes me sick because it almost comes to the point where I don't blame people for not wanting to go to college because of this. What's wrong with our educational system are teachers like THIS woman.

It's the same as with the douchebags at Wankette; it's not my fault I did those things...you drove me to it!

Whatever happened to, "Please take me off your mailing list, thanks?" Or blocking e-mails you don't want? No, "Dr. Lewin," a wackademic who's probably a less-charming version of Ben Stiller's mom in those Focker movies (given that it's Babs Streisand, that's saying a lot), is an angry '60s red diaper doper baby who feels entitled to spout forth what's always been the bee in her bonnet. Work e-mail is not the place to do it. I'd be in big trouble if I issued the f-bomb at someone who used the mail group to post yet another urban legend debunked years ago on Snopes.com.

Seriously, how can someone be so unprofessional? I'm from Iowa and many of my family members have attended that school. Knowing this makes them much less inclined to give donations back to a university that tolerates something so biased, malicious, and foolish.

It was completely inappropriate and unprofessional of her I understand the anger with how the event was advertised and the appropriation of certain terms. She also probably played into the college republicans hands because certain parts of the press original e-mail seem to be done purposely to offend liberals.
