I don't hate her, I dislike her. Much like I assume you dislike Obama.
I strongly disagree with his policies, but actually I do like Obama. He's funny, adores his wife and daughters, and seems like a genuinely decent man.
I find it annoying that when Obama-the-candidate was repeatedly roasted for having little experience in government, McCain was later forced to take an inexperienced-in-government person as his running mate, and Palin was then automatically hailed (and is still hailed) as an excellent choice even though the campaign itself didn't want her.
Inexperienced in government? She was a mayor, chairman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, and governor of the largest state in the country. She had executive experience which can prove far more valuable in an executive position like VP.
coldblossom above said that they think "Liberals hate the idea of successful women with Conservative beliefs". Which is fine to think, I guess, but I also think is incorrect. But anywho, my point here is that sexism against liberals in this own community isn't called out at all.
Well, as for the first statement, I suppose it's just a difference of opinion since you didn't provide any evidence that coldblossom's claim was false. As for your link to this very community as proof as sexism against liberals, I think there's a large difference between a comment thread on aLiveJournal community and the mainstream media (though in the link you provided, I couldn't find anything sexist in what was said). And furthermore, is your objection that it exists or that it wasn't referred to in this post?
Next car on the hypocrisy train: liberals are said to treat Obama like the next coming of Jesus, but if you look at really liberal places on the web like Metafilter you'll find he gets crucified regularly.
Again, as I said when I introduced the article, I'm more interested in the narrative of the mainstream media. I'm sure all of us could find blogs where Obama is used as a punching bag, but more to my point, we can all find New York Times editorials that treat Palin, and the Right in general, as theirs.
Heading back to my first thing about experience: she resigned her governorship. She could have easily finished it off. She had no reason not to, if she were going to continue with a political career.
It's not exactly unheard of for politicians to step down from their current post to focus on being elected to another. Take Rahm Emmanuel for example. No one called him a quitter. He needed to focus on his campaign for mayor of Chicago and I don't blame him.
It would have forced people to respect her just that little bit more. But she quit. Because of... legal problems she was already taking care of?
The legal problems were ethics charges brought against her (none of them were upheld, as an aside), which were a distraction to her job and huge expense for the state.
To then... ghostwrite a book? And get paid thousands of dollars to speak? And have a reality TV show? She's making a lot of money off this stuff, so at the very least her motives in retrospect seem more self-serving than noble.
I'm not sure when making money became such an ugly thing, but that's a capitalism-loving conservative talking. Again, your objection seems that she's keeping the money that she's earned, even if you disagree with how she earned, for herself instead of donating it to more noble causes.
She could have done anything. Spoke more often with more focus on charity, made appearances at soup kitchens or whatever. You know, conservative values. It just looks bad, to me.
And let's say she had. Would people all of a sudden had stopped and said "Wow, look at all that charity and soup kitchen work! She's not so bad after all!" Or would they have accused her of pandering to an audience that does charity work and volunteers at soup kitchens (which you claim are conservative values though I'll admit to never having volunteered at a soup kitchen in my life). My point is, even her most noble actions will never be considered noble because the Left and the media are convinced she has ulterior motives. And someone whose every word and action is labeled as phony and insincere just can't win.
