News Round-Up

Yay, the first round-up! I've been wanting to do something like this for a while, so I appreciate that you are all giving me the chance to. Since I've been gathering up news headlines throughout the week, I've placed the date each article was added to the post after the headline. Stuff I think is particularly important or interesting, will have bolded headlines regardless of the date added. Beneath each headline I will sum up the major thrust of the article, possibly in a humorous manner, in one or two sentences.

Suggestions are totally welcome. News sources you'd like to see in future posts, new categories, things you think aren't covered very well, all that good stuff.

United States

Now they'll be using scanners that do exactly the same thing, but show cookie-cutter person graphics. One wonders why they didn't do this to start off with.

Honestly, the more articles I read about this, the more confusing it seems to get.
The DoJ is Preparing to Issue Subpoenas to News Corp Outlets in the United States - 07/22
I suppose it was only a matter of time before this happened. I really hope that FOX and the WSJ don't play into any lib talking points by having anything that gets them into trouble, though. :\
"Cut, Cap, and Balance" was Rejected by the Senate - 07/22
Obama is apparently "unalterably opposed" to any debt limit increase that does not last the rest of this presidential term, according to WH spokesdude Jay Carney. Gee, I wonder why?

Now two of top executives for News Corp have resigned. Les Hinton and Rebekah Brooks.
MPs Now Raising Concerns over Connections Between London Police and Phone Hackers - 07/17
Because it ain't a party until something gets broke the government weighs in. Also, some preliminary proposals on regulations to prevent future occurrences.

The police are claiming his death is not suspicious. Honestly, at this point, I don't even know what's going on anymore.

Ohio Bans Late-Term Abortions - 07/20
A law taking effect in 90 days will ban all abortions which take place after viability--a fuzzy line at times, to be honest, but it's a step in the right direction.

I watched this one and it was a major heartbreaker. At least we made the finals, I suppose.

Apparently when you start trying to shut down websites that process a few million bucks a day with DDOS attacks, the government finds it distressing. Who knew?

Some of you may note I have not included word one about Michele Bachmann's headaches. That's because headaches are not news and I refuse to pretend that they are. Herman Cain agrees with me, too. ;)
